While I have him at top 10 based on his accomplishments, he's basically a 155 lbs Jake Shields with mediocore wrestling. He's an absolute wizard on the ground, I think he submits 75% of the LW and FW division. But the problem is those divisions are so wrestler heavy, he might not even get the chance to show off his skillset.

If he wants to be taken seriously as a UFC contender, he HAS GOT to improve his striking. And I don't mean improve it good enough to get the fiht to the ground, I mean improve it so that he causes problems on the feet. Fighters with glaring holes, whether hyped or not, don't fare very well in the UFC, let alone "Dominate". That is an absolute FACT.

Yea it is funny when Aoki was beat in the MMA round of a mixed, stand up/mma fight.

Dude is a joke. He was an embarrassment to the sport the first round falling to the ground worse than Thales Leites.

People who back him are just Asian nuthuggers or guys who HOPE he can somehow sub a decent fight. Problem is he fights zero decent fighters.

Can is an odd definaition.

But who has he beat anytime lately that is UFC caliber. He beat Alverez in 2008. Who else? None of the guys he beat even belong in the UFC.

Aoki is without a doubt overrated.

Aurélio, Beerbohm, Ribeiro, Kawajiri, Hirota, Clementi, Hansen, JZ(not so much now) are all decent fighters. He hasn't fought any current top ten UFC caliber fighters, but there are few not in the UFC. The win over Eddie still counts for something, and to say he sucks because he lost to Eddie the second time. Aoki was looking decent with his strikes, and then got clipped, and made a foolish mistake, where he got a flurry from Eddie. Aoki is overrated as far as being a top ten rank LW in the world, but he gives a lot of guys at LW and FW troubles. He's gotten a whole lot better in terms of striking.. He was awful but he's getting better, but quite a bit.

He will never dominate the UFC. He needs to work extensively with a good striking coach and a strong wrestling coach like Sonnen, or Maynard. So he really needs to come to the states for a bit and train if he wants to make any serious run

I have to catch up with Aoki's fights because the last time I saw him he was knocked out by a cross-dressing kickboxer in a freak show special rules fight.

Only one who MAY be UFC caliber is Kawajiri, at 145 lbs. The other couple decent ones are has beens who were OK fighters years ago. Hansen was never as good as he was ranked.

Melendez might come in an not even end up being a top 5 LW. Yet he totally destroyed Aoki and showed how easily he could be beaten with any amount of common fighting sense.

Aoki would catch a couple of guys. But would lose way more often than he wins in the UFC. He should try to get into Bellator and beat Chandler or Hawn if he wants to act like he is UFC worthy. But for now he will continue fighting cans.

I don't see him dominating any division in the UFC.

I see him doing pretty much as good as Sotiropolos did. He's basically the same fighter with better subs and slightly weaker chin.

That is to say he could climb all the way to contender if fed the perfect fights like Soti was, but any elite wrestler or striker with good TDD will tool him.

Not saying Soti has great hands. But his striking is certainly better than Aoki's.
