They should have "lay downs" too, for when the fighters are doing squat in the stand up. (Mir - CroCop for ex.)

That I think would be really bad for the sport. There are other ppv channels if that's hat you want to watch.

Watching the 1st prelim fight of UFC on FX 9... Abedi was dominating on the ground, staying active elbowing/punching etc and that idiot ref just keeps shouting "stay active, activity, activity guys..." and then stands them up... even though Abedi was working hard.

He earned the position let him keep it.

If a fighter chooses to use a strategy for eg that he will blitz the opponent and use a lot of energy in a short burst.. then maybe his backup plan is a take down if his blitz didnt get a KO.. to recover his energy, if the ref interferes and stands them up, he doesnt recover, and the ref effectively makes him lose the fight. THis is just one eg.

I believe these standups are only happening because the UFC wants to grovel to the mainstream fans who only want to see a chaotic bar room brawls with no technique/strategy. "Exciting fights" I believe they call it.

The fans shouldnt tell the fighters how to fight.. it should be the fighters and commentators educating the fans.
While I totally agree with not standing fighters up when they are active on the ground, I believe you are placing blame in the wrong hands. The UFC has nothing to do with the refs for most fights. The athletic commission selects and pays the refs, not the UFC.

When the event is held in a country with out an athletic commission, Rathner selects the refs and always selects refs from recognized commissions, that have good reputations and follow the rules.

So, its not the UFCs fault, its the governing bodies fault!

Bwhahaha that would be amazing.

Fighters circling
Ref-"lets go guys work"
Fighters keep circling
Ref-"I need to see action or I'm laying you down!"
Fighters continue circling
Ref-"break all right, he's chasing you're running. He gets top half guard."

Alright, enough with the "Who cares, we all know..." shtick now. Nobody here has anything against an odd comment or two but it has run its course, don't you think?

I dont enjoy stand ups either simply because they make it possible for guys to not focus so much on wrestling since they know they can be stood up....i think there should be yellow cards and purse deduction for it on the ground, standing, or against the fence

And more importantly, actually enforce the timidity rule, this is the biggest factor, you should be able to deduct 1 point each round if the fighter is just stalling, he needs to work, advance position, cause damage, go for subs/KOs...if a fighter is clearly avoiding the fight, take a point away..then the only way for them to win by stalling is if they truly dominate a round where their opponent had 0 offense, then even with point deduction they win a 9-8 round...and rounds where someone causes a lot of damage and almost finishes the fights should be 10-7

The problem with this is the refs would really have to step their game up and know when a fighter is actually stalling/running away...for example a good ref wouldnt enforce timidity in the Diaz vs Condit fight...or in Machida vs Henderson. Bur you could use it in the Maia vs Silva fight..and a couple of others i cant remember now

I think this is a fair way to let these guys fight...if you want to win by taking 0 risks you can, but you better be damn good to secure a 9-8 round and not mind losing 10% of your purse. Because yes if a wrestler is just holding you down it is your fault you cant get up...but at the same time its almost impossible to get up if the guy on top doesnt create any space/openings by using GnP or try to advance position.
