Having seen Ryan Couture the other night, admittedly for the first time, he took a pretty serious beating once Pearson started to catch him. Watching the fight his style looked pretty similar to his old man yet he lacked the strength, grappling ability, timing, and the boxing technique of Randy. Does he have what it takes, or can he improve enough to stay fighting? Looking at him and the way he fights I can't see much of a future for him being successful at the top level, only taking a lot of punches to the head.
I'd tell him to stop trying to act like he isn't a 205 pounder or a heavyweight. There is so much skill and better fighters in the lighter divisions. Bulk up, son. I have faith in you. Don't let one loss derail your motivation. It's time. To put on the weight and become a man.
I come from a family of collegiate wrestlers. My uncle was an absolute badass at ASU, so were my two older brothers who were All-American D-One. My little brother just wasn't cut out for it. It's not that he was bad but he wasn't as good as my brothers or uncle and didn't have the natural talent to get a scholarship or get to that level. But because my brothers and uncle were so good and garnered so much praise, my little brother felt he was supposed to do the same. I'm just glad no one in my family looked down on him because of it and encouraged his other talents.
I'd tell Ryan what my uncle told my brother. That I'm proud of him, that he did a great job, but that maybe this isn't for you. Some people are just given other gifts and talents.
Ryan started training at only 25 and was a banker or something up until that point. He can live comfortably without getting punched in the face.
Serisously the guy has a half decent record and has fought in the UFC and Strikeforce if his last name wasn't Couture nobody would think he was a disappointment.
I'd break into a song and dance, this song and dance...
Then I would go get a job at a bank and be the greatest banker of all time!
Well actually I would just tell him to keep training. It's not like you have to be super awesome right away.
first off people are acting like ross pearson is a bum or something the guy has really good standup and legit knockout power. It is unfortunate he isn't ever going to be as good as his dad. He can be a gatekeeper or journeyman but honestly probably not much more than that. Randy isn't as good as he's given credit for imo. But ryans not going to get out of his dads shadow and there are way better lws now than ever before.
