Completely agree. Guillard seems so naturally athletic and packs a lot of heat, but lacks the mental grit to refine his technique AND game plan.

Yup The Bronx. He came out and beat TUF winner Escudero in impressive fashion. He wilts once he gets hurt, but man he has a ton of talent.

Another doesn't even fight in the UFC. Prolly gonna get laughs here, but hear me out...Mariusz Pudzianowski aka Super Mario. Figured he has the heart of a champion and knows how to train properly since he is the 5x World's Strongest Man. That definitely had to count for something. But this also showed me that "bodybuilding" physiques just don't translate well in fighting other than Overeem which is a rare exception. I genuinely thought he would make a splash in the MMA world similar to Brock Lesnar...haha. I think if he was an Olympic caliber wrestler he would no doubt win because he would outmuscle everyone AND have the endurance.

Here's a few others.

Goran Reljic
I'll go on and say Mirco in the UFC. I really didn't care if he lost, I/WE all wanted to see just one.

I'd suggest you rewatch the second fight, Junior swept him and was easily stuffing his telegraphed takedowns until Cain knocked him down. All he had to do was pounce on him instead of going back to the middle of the cage.

Junior just couldn't keep up with Cain's ridiculous pace...
He would've lost, even without the knockdown.

First name that comes to mind: Alexander Emelianenko. At the time, he was like 24 years old, had excellent technique, stamina, boxing, sambo, heart. Everything you need as a fighter. He had Fedor training with him. At this time, Fedor was pushing 30 and it was around the time everyone wanted him to sign with the UFC, but he wouldn't.

I figured Aleks would sign with the UFC and really make it a competitive bunch. Even after the Cro Cop loss, I still believed in him. But it never happened. He supposedly failed a drug test and spent the rest of his career fighting for Fedor's company, M-1, in Russia. I really believed that dude was the best young HW fighter in the world, and would have demolished Sylvia, Lesnar, Mir, Carwin,. We'd probably be talking about Alexander Emeleianenko along with Cain and JDS.

I could probably think of more fighters but he was the first one to come to mind. It's a shame. Now, Fedor is retired, and Alexander is retired due to a nagging leg injury he suffered in a kickboxing match aganst Russia's top K-1 fighter. Got kicked in the leg. man, and just couldnt recover fully from it.

Alex Caceres, James Te-Huna, Kyle Noke at WW, Erik Perez, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

I think Perez and Khabib will be UFC champs one day.

When Aldo moves up Barao will too and then that makes Aldo LW Champ, Barao FW Champ and Perez BW champ.

I also have to add WW Maia and Mark Hunt.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give that fight a rewatch. I had a lot of personal investment in that fight as I tend to view my favorite fighters almost like I'm in there, getting super nervous for them etc. Perhaps I wasn't focused on the technical aspects as much as I thought.

Siyar Bahadurzada - (21-5)- Kickboxing, Welterweight, 5'11", 170 lbs. 29 years old. , from Kabul, Afghanistan. Currently in the UFC. Was the Shooto Middleweight Champion, has fought in Sengoku, UG, and in Russia. Went on a 7 fight winning streak before losing his second fight in the UFC, a decision against Dong Hyun Kim. I'm hoping he has learned how to sprawl and brawl and will make another run for the UFC WW title. Cause after Hendricks, GSP, Condit....it's Siyar.

Erik Silva - (14-3) - Kickboxing, BJJ, Welterweight, 5'11", 170 lbs. Won a lot of fights in Brazil under the Jungle Fight promotion. Recently lossed a decision to Jon Fitch on October 12, 2012. He's due for another fight soon. He's not as high on my list as Siyar, at WW, but he's good and promising.

Alexander Gustaffson.....an unknown fighter from Russia. From the Russian Top Team. Kickboxing, Sambo, trained with Fedor. Light Heavyweight. Recently sufered a injury in training, was supposed to fight Jon Jones for the LHW title. Hoping he gets back in there, because I believe he is the one to beat Jones.

For me there are quite a few people I had/have expectations for in each weight.

Flyweight:
Had - Yasuhiro Urushitani - I think he was given a very tough for his debut and I do think his release was premature. But there is no denying his age is catching up to him
Have - John Lineker - I think he is a great fighter and would not be shocked to see him as a contender soon

Bantamweight:
Had - Ivan Menjivar - When he was on his run I was like he will soon be a contender. Now he is 1-2 in his last three and whilst he is still exciting and great to watch I unfortunately do not see him being a contender any more.
Have - Erik Perez, Johnny Bedford, TJ Dillishaw & Raphael Assuncao and Jumabieke

Featherweight:
Had - Nam Phan, Maximo Blanco, Justin Lawrence & Robbie Peralta
Have - Pettis, Elkins, Lamas, Lentz, Rony Jason, Zombie, Holloway, McGregor & Hioki

Lightweight
Had - mac Danzig, Diego Sanchez, Melvin Guillard, Cristiano Marcello, Michael Johnson & Tony Ferguson
Have - Takanori Gomi, Reza Madadi, Tim Means, KJ Noons, Josh Thompson, Rustam Khabilov, Abel Trujillo, Khabib Nurmagomedov & Myles Jury

Welterweight:
Had - Nick Diaz, Martin Kampmann, Akiyama, Shields & Wonderboy
Have - Johny Hendricks, Hyun Gyu Lim, Woodley, Rory & Ellenberger

Middleweight
Had - Uriah hall, Ed Herman, David Terrell, Lombard, Palhares & Rafael Natal
Have - Luke Barnatt, Tom Watson, Costa Philippou, Brad Tavares & Luke Rockhold

Light Heavyweight
Had - Anthony Perosh, Igor Pokrajac, Brandon Vera & Thiago Silva
Have - Lil Nog, Bader, Texiera, Te Huna, Manuwa, Sonnen, Gustaffson & Mousasi

Heavyweight:
Had - Overeem, lesnar, Struve, SDR, Rothwell, Herman, Mitrione & Duffee
Have - Hunt, Palelei, Nog, Cormier, Bigfoot & Big country

Anyway,

Fighters I had a lot of hope for:

Ian McCall - Had a lot of hope in him after the first MM-McCall fight. I wasn't really fond of the introduction of the flyweight division, but that fight changed my mind. I thought McCall won the decision, but Johnson got the decision and after a day or two it was announced a draw. Hoped McCall would beat up MM in the 2nd fight and go on to win the title, but things didn't go as planned. Having lost to MM and Benavidez, I don't think a title shot is on the horizon.

Brian Ebersole - Man I remember him being a fan favourite on this forum in 2011. Talks of him being a future title contender and so on. He was on an awesome win streak before that loss to Heads. No idea what he is doing now. Last fight was nearly a year ago...

Rashad - Thought he would absolutely demolish Lil Nog and drop down to 185. His performance in that fight... I don't see him doing too well against Hendo if he does that same shit again. Doubt he is gonna make another run at the LHW title or the MW title. He is getting old now.

Fighters I have a lot of hope for:

Alex Caceres - I really like the guy and his fighting style. Seems like he gets some hate on this forum due to his character on TUF. Hopefully his fighting style changes peoples' mind and he makes a good comeback after his suspension.

Conor McGregor - Excellent performance in his last fight. Can't wait to see how he fares against better competition.

Rafael Dos Anjos - Considering that he trains at Evolve MMA Singapore, and I used to train there as well, I can't help but root for this guy. (Never met him, but whatever ). He is on a really good 3 fight win streak as well. Looked so dominant against Bocek. Hopefully he gets a title shot by 2014.

Maia - What a monster he is at welterweight. Finally putting his BJJ to good use. I don't mind seeing GSP vs Maia in early 2014

Mark Hunt - That fight against Rothwell really made me a fan. Couldn't believe he was outgrappling Rothwell...that was totally awesome. Now, JDS-Hunt. I will be happy no matter who wins.
