I think he won 1,2 and 5. 3 was a toss up but bendo leaning. IMO Gil won the fight.

This was one of these fights which could have been scored for either man. I gave Gilbert rounds 1 & 5 whilst Bendo has 2 & 4. 3 was so close that I could see it scored for either man. I personally gave it to Gil but robbed no because the fight was that close.

This could be like Bendo/Edgar all over again.

Too close to be called a robbery, I just think these guys should never leave it to the judges. Watching the fight live I though Gil might take it, but the strikes landed, significant strikes and kicks all favoured the champ.

Great fight nonetheless though :thumb01:

Never thought I would say this. I was so confident going in to the fight that Henderson would beat Melendez in every area and easily get a 49-46 UD if not a 50-45. But No.

In my opinion, I scored the fight for Melendez Rd 1,2,5.

Yeah, it was a close fight. The entire fight itself is close from bell to bell. I won't argue either way.

Do you guys think that it was the corners fault for Gil? I seem to see this alot from the Cesar Gracie corners Diaz Bros fights. They always seem to tell there fighters that they won a round and are up in the fights when they either are not or they are close rounds. Gil in the post fight presser said he let off the gas after round 2 which I believe is when Jake told him he had won both rounds. It he would have told him keep up the pressure dont let off these are close rounds then maybie Gil would have went a bit harder like round 1. Seems like kinda bad cornering sometimes from Cesars corners.

There was no robbery. The entire fight was pretty much a toss up. I had it scored 2 to 2 going into the 5th, Bendo won the 5th. But..., it wouldn't have been shocking if Gil was called the winner. To anybody to says it was a robbery, if you don't understand that the challenger has to beat the champ decisively to win a decision, then you're a moron. It is rare that the challenger beat the champ by split decision. Honestly, after the fight was over, I almost wished that Bendo would lose. Nothing against Bendo, after seeing the fight, I just knew that every moron on every forum everywhere would cry robbery if Bendo won.

I would define a 'robbery' as a situation where a fighter who clearly lost the fight won on the judges scorecards.
I wouldn't say this counts as a robbery because every party has admitted that the fight was very, very close. I personally scored it for Melendez but it's not a ludicrous argument that Henderson won, and there's actually a pretty convincing case for it. Look at everyone's scorecards on this forum, they're all over the place.

I thought Benson had Rd 2, 4 and 5, I felt like 2 and 3 could have gone either way but 1 was clearly for Gil, 4 was for Benson, and 5 was likely for Benson.

I'll say this though Gilbert Melendez lost that fight, Benson made the moves to score points, he was the one shooting for tds trying to finish the rounds in dominant position. Gilbert was "aggressive" in that he was moving forward but he really wasn't doing much to cement each round.
