He competes in a sport with a primarily fickle fan-base, so he did nothing wrong in reality.

He underestimated Mir, who surprisingly came in a great form. Jackson's MMA was a good move for Mir for this fight, but it wasn't enough. Mir was in great shape and that made the match hard for Cormier to finish or dominate. Maybe, Cormier should move to 205..

...Cormier won the fight like I predicted by UD. I certainly didn't expect Daniel to come in and plow over Mir. He certainly controlled all aspects of the clinch game and landed some nice shots. Based on Cormier's lack of experience, including striking, he did a great job against an always game, very experienced Frank Mir...

What I saw was a "newcomer" who is smaller in stature control the fight from bell to bell. This was the same tactic Carwin and Brock used on Mir, as another poster mentioned the same tactic Mir used against Crocop. Randy and GSP use clinchwork all the time to get their takedowns. Mir excels in the ground game so Cormier did the right thing.

He ripped a ton of body shots, knees, and hooks in the clinch. Mir landed a few nice knees and kicks. I felt DC could have finished if he wanted to or at least hurt Mir even more. His shots were at 50% - 75% power. He didn't want to get sloppy and get taken down. Think we all expected a TKO from DC, but he got the win.

DC is already the Grand Prix SF, KOTC and XMMA champ. Titles don't mean much, but his list of fighters does considering his experience in MMA. If JDS was the HW champ he should get the shot, but given the scenario it's time for him to move south of the border for the title.

Well, to a degree. It's not like he was actively looking for the finish or to at least advance his position. Only thing he was working towards was hugging.

There's just nothing impressive about being the first fighter to beat, but not finish Frank Mir.

Will make predictions for credits. Please, I'm so broke.

Courmier is clearly a LHW. But since he suffered kidney failure the last time he tried a weight drop, it's no surprise, he playing it safe on that. But look at the fight. He gave away four inches and twenty pounds to a guy who LOOKED like he was in great shape, and just outstrength-ed him.

He was captain of the US Olympic wrestling team in 2008. The dude obviously has alien core-strength. If he can make it to 205 with his health intact, he could be a beast. BUT ... he's had faster hands than every heavyweight he's fought. That won't be true at LHW.

lets put this in perspective. this is mir's first lost by decision, EVER!

all his other loses are by (t)KO. DC is the first guy who could not put mir away. brock's wresting put mir away and from what everyone tells me even then brock's wrestling and striking are not on the same level as DC's current.

so why could he not put mir away? or should i say why did DC's camp choose to not put mir away?

Carley Simon, thanks for writing that song about me!

What he did wrong was lose a title shot to Werdum, it was a big win for him and hopefully he'll draw JDS next.

I hate to sound like one of 'those guys' but DC wall n stalled out a victory. Bad performance by the pair of them and I expected more from both of them.
