Cormier didn't fight exciting, but he fought a smart and safe fight. He fought a strategy in which Frank Mir had the least possible chance of winning, and wanted to make sure he didn't choke, or get flash KO'd in his first UFC fight. Daniel did nothing wrong in my eyes.

If anything, I was impressed by Cormiers ability to stratigize and secure a victory.

I thought it was very impressive. He controlled Mir like it was nothing and had some great clinch work. I'll concede that he probably could've finished Mir when he had him wobbly instead of going going to the clinch so often but other than that, Cormier looked like a monster.

And to the people saying he was stalling against the cage, what fight were you watching? Cormier was working his ass off.. especially for a heavyweight.

I don't get the hate, I think he's a great fighter and a cool & respectful person. he's probably the second best HW after Cain. He handily beat Barnett & Mir & also smoked Bigfoot. I don't think he's overrated at all.

The Mir fight was boring sure but I've seen alot worse. For a wallNstall fight it was pretty eventful & DC did alot of damage against the cage. I think he just respected Mirs skills & was playing it safe. It was too bad as I think he could have outstruck him and even Ko'd him if he wanted to but oh well DC is great imo.

If you remember, there were several times in the 2nd and 3rd rounds where Cormier moved away from the cage and Mir tried to clinch him and Cormier would just instantly reverse.

what he did wrong? he went into this fight with no intentions of finishing.. wall and stall, vertical lay and pray, hugging, whatever you want to call it..

Mir obviously came to strike and hopefully get taken down to where he could work some jitz.. I mean his kicks looked nice, he was light on his feet and was actually using some head movement... punches were still slow but at least he was using angles and had better defense...

Smart and boring game plan by Cormier..

Head-butting fists and KOing the air is not effective striking.

You miss all the hard shots he landed coming it and from the clinch?

Agreed. The crowd boo'd one time and DC just pushed off and said OK I'll strike. Looked like he wanted to strike to me. Just because they ended up against the cage doesn't exactly mean that is what DC was trying to do. DC came in a lot and Mir didn't dodge, he backed up against the cage.

Was no where near as bad as Mir vs Cro Cop was. I guess I would have to watch I again. But I remember DC landed plenty of decent shot...just not the shot.

cormier said the nerves got to him and he felt really slow for some reason in an interview and he said he never gets tired either.
