Historical upsets by smaller fighters

The first the comes to mind is Michael Spinks defeating Larry Homes. He moved up from LHW to take on Homes as Homes was looking to tie Marciano's record. Spinks completely outclassed him.

More recent history, you have Penn defeating Matt Hughes. Henderson defeating Fedor. Johnson defeating AA. I suppose Kimbo Pet deserves mentions (or maybe not).

Oh and then there's the actual TUFF finale that was supposed to be just a formality for Uriah Hall.

Any others come to mind?

Just wondering if Sonnen has even the slightest potential for pulling something like this off. Normally, the bigger fighter underestimates the speed of the smaller fighter. Sonnen is actually a pretty good and underestimated boxer. He's deceptively quick with his hands. And it's possible he could out cardio Jones, not having to cut much weight. Sonnen's also a very smart fighter. Could a genius game plan be implemented?

I think most would agree if Sonnon pulls of this miracle, it would be a bigger upset than any of those above.

The best UFC mismatches in weight I can remember -

Keith Hackney vs Yarborough
Marco King of the Streets Ruas vs Varelans

In the realm of the non freak show Randy felling the syliva tree, and also being able to pick up Gonzago and dump him on his head.
I dont see this fight as being such a big deal weight wise, I'd say chael is just as strong as JJ, and plenty wider. Just the height and reach aspect, but JJ seems to have that over all his opponents so far anyway

surprised no one has mentioned Randy Couture vs Tim Sylvia or Bob Sapp vs Antonio Nogueira. Two prime examples of the little guy overcoming the odds.

Chael has bulked up and to be honest Rashad is a small LHW so at this point Chael is likely bigger than Rashad, Vitor or Machida.

Weight wise Sonnen has bulked up but he's still the smallest of that bunch by a good bit, only comparable is Rashad in my opinion.
