Bisping has won something like 18 fights. If he started out with a salary of $12k his first win might've boosted him to $18k and the next to $24 or whatever. Eventually, after 18 or so wins (and only 2-4 losses) he's raking in $425,000.

Its also good for UFC & MMA expansion. If young people in the UK look at Bisping and see how much he makes, it gives them a goal to shoot for in the same way some take up golf thinking they can make a career out of it like tiger woods.

Plus you have to remember A LOT of people pay to see Bisping fight. His fans pay to see him win, and his haters pay to see him lose. I bet outside of GSP/Anderson/Bones he's one of the biggest PPV draws the UFC has.

It would be interesting to see the numbers.

Bisping gains attention. People either watch to see him win, or watch to see him lose. No-one ignores Michael Bisping, very few are neutral about him. He also won an early TUF, and the UFC seem to look after the early TUF guys that have stuck around, especially winners. Since Bisping moved to 185, he's been in and around a title shot, and is a massive name in the UK. Bisping deserves every penny he makes.

Garcia made good money for a guy on a 4-fight losing streak.

I dont understand how any UFC champ isnt always at the top of the list. If you hold a belt and defend it, the only people on the card who make more money than you should be another Champ. Thats insane!

Just kidding .... I think?
Actually I suspect your joke is close to reality. I know a lot of companies nowadays that just do under the table cash transactions, completely off the books, to pay their employees and keep the tax burden low for both themselves and the employees.

There is no way UFC level fighters could be fighting on $18000 a year minus training expenses (that is the UFC entry level purse I think, $6000, and that level of fighter probably doesn't have any endorsements either). You can make more than that working at McDonalds, imo there's just no way the top .1% of fighters in the world (which is what you are if the UFC signs you) actually take that home, future prospects or no future prospects.

Come to think of it, I've always suspected the same in boxing.

You're right. The UFC not only pay them a hell of a lot more than they disclose (unless the fight really sucked), you then have to add sponsorships to that, which, for a reasonably good fighter with a good manager, should be a real solid boost to the funds. If you look at the Forbes top earners in sport list, it's very rarely a sportsmans 'salary' that makes up the bulk of their earnings, unless you're Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao.

These are the ones that surprised me. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with them; they just surprised me.

Vinny is making FB prelim money and fighting on the main card... The UFC sure bent him over on his way back.

Like others, I was a little surprised to see Garcia make that much.

Chael Sonnen's $50,000 is nothing compared to the fact that he actually makes millions from the UFC. I posted awhile ago in one of these salary threads about how Sonnen was worth nearly $8 million. I believe Anderson Silva was around $16 million or so.

There is no way the UFC is doing this, don't be ridiculous. They aren't going to screw with tax fraud to save a few bucks for their employees.
