UFC 162: Chris Weidman Says He's a Nightmare Matchup for Anderson Silva

Theoretically Weidman is a dangerous matchup but we haven't seen enough of his ability against top level competition to know if he can actually pull it off.

Agree. Big Anderson fan, and pick him by TKO in the 2nd. But I have always said Weidman has the best chance at 185. He does present nightmare skills for Anderson....but will it be enough?

well said.

I will be rooting for him too. Dude's just a great guy.

Nobody coming off a long layoff due to injury has ever been a "dangerous matchup" for anybody...

Hype. The ref will say fight, and very shortly after, Weidman will realize he is horribly out of his depth.

Yeah he's big, young, well rounded, great wrestling... he's had 9 fights. He's going to fight Anderson Silva after a year off with injury. With 9 fights. And he has the best chance of any UFC challenger to date? Please.

I would be delighted to see Anderson Silva lose, I'm getting tired of seeing him with that belt.
But I think Weidman is out of his league here. He's a great athlete with incredible wrestling and good subs, but to even pose a remote challenge to Anderson you need to have a fast, explosive double/single leg takedown. Weidman doesn't have that.
Silva will finish off Weidman in the third.

Anderson Silva doesn't have nightmares, Chris. Nightmares have Anderson Silva.

Having said that, I think Weidman is the likeliest middleweight to pull it off in the foreseeable future.

Match-up wise, I think he can be a problem for Silva. But there's still some unanswered questions. Can he go 5 rds? How good of a punch (punches) can he take? How well does he adjust if things go wrong? If Weidman had proven that he's excelled in those catagories, then I think Silvas got a real problem on his hands. But since we're dealing with someone who only has 9 career fights, who hasn't proven how exactly well rounded his skill set truly is, who's getting ready to fight someone whos in a league all on his own after he's had a long layoff, then I'd say Silva's a safe bet for the victory.

I do, however, think Weidman has tons of potental, and may very well be the MW champion after Silva retires.
