Damn, gutted about this I really wanted to see Carwin in the octagon a few more times. One of my favourite heavyweights in the UFC and provided us with one of my favourite and most brutal knockouts ever

He never was going to come back, I didn't expect him to anyway. The nature of his injuries and age at the time put him out of the picture immediately for me. Great fighter to watch, but the steroid myths ruin it a bit.

I kind of figured he was finished after his injuries.

The reason p4p rankings exist is because of weak divisions such as HW that rarely showcase as much technical skill as the other divisions.
I agree with this. I'm not trying to hate on Carwin, but people sort of expected too much out of him. His best win was Mir, a guy who sucks vs. big strong punchers who muscle him around. He beat Gonzo, who was cut. He beat up Lesnar, but we soon found out Lesnar isn't all that, and can't take much of a punch.

Carwin has massive power, but is slow as death. Solid wrestling. No cardio at all. Not much BJJ. His size was exaggerated, they said 6'4 at one point, he is no more than 6 foot.

HW can use any solid fighters they can find. But Carwin is 38, he simply started too late, and I think he was roided up badly when he started.

If he fought guys like Werdum, Cain, Hunt, Browne, Roy he would have got beat up like he did vs. JDS. Carwin had power, but his striking wasn't good.

He has been unofficially retired for a long time now. Really though just like Brock he came in the HW division at the right time when it was weak with no depth. He likely gets beat by all the current top 10 HW at this point. Almost got knocked out by GG, almost beat Brock. Bout sums up for me right there. I won't miss him.

Good call.
He is almost 40 and has not competed in 2 years due to injuries. There is no sense in killing yourself at this age, the guy has more important things to consider.

Between Brock and Shane... Mur definitely lost about 10 years of his life.
