Bummed for this but I guess there's no point carrying on fighting if you don't feel you can give it your all. Whatever @ the steroid allegations, I'm sure if we all knew the truth we'd look at a lot of our favorite fighters differently. Hope he's happy.
The truth is Shane took roids at some point. That much is pretty damn clear. If you want to look past it because we don't know who else was on roids then that's up to you. But he took roids.

Dude is a full time engineer, how does he find time to powerlift all the time when he's meant to be training MMA?
Cool all good points with that info I would tend to agree.

I wouldn't really call it a sad day. He hasn't fought in 2 years so I just figured he retired already.

...For those who dog Carwin--simply shouldn't. The dude brought us some huge excitement to the HW division with his nasty 1 punch dingers. Then the sick beatdown of Mir getting the interim was sweet. Then facing Lesnar in a huge bout and if Shane had not gassed and kept landing clean bombs, Ref would have stopped it. He has an Engineering degree. Shane will do just fine. No matter how you look at it--Carwin did bring in some big excitement into the UFC HW division for a bit. Carwin has his share of highlight reel KO's...

I myself am not trying to dog Carwin. He was just at the top of the map for a very short time in a time when Brock ruled the division. Cain and Reem showed that Brock wasn't much if he couldn't ragdoll you. Mir was a solid win... Gonzo was cut a few fights later.

He was fun to have around. But I think if he hadn't had chronic back problems he would have started to see more and more losses as he got to fight the rest of the guys now.

Would be cool if he started earlier and was only 33 instead of 38.

Great fighter and one heck of a guy. Too many surgeries, too late in his career and training part time, good decision on his part to focus on family.

That JDS fight was one heck of a showing, to take a beating from the champ like that and not give up.

Hat comes off for Carwin

One great personality and athlete, indeed. I wouldn't mind watch him in action a little longer, but he probably gave proper time to think about this decision. Good luck.
