9 Fighters, Including Leonard Garcia, Removed From UFC Roster

Quote:
When the UFC removes your profile from the online masterlist of fighters in its official website, it usually means you’re gone. Now that has happened to nine athletes earlier this week, as reported by Bloody Elbow, including fan favorite Leonard Garcia. The following is the list of fighters who are expected to be released in the upcoming days by the MMA’s most famous organization:

Leonard Garcia (15-11-1/2-7 in the UFC): Much has been speculated about the release of Garcia over the past couple years due to his growing losing streak. But the featherweight has been kept around because of his exciting fighting style, which has earned him four “Fight of the Night” bonuses inside the organization. But following a lackluster performance against Cody McKenzie on UFC 159, the UFC decided to pull the plug on the 33-year-old brawler who has lost five fights in a row.

Antonio “Pato” Carvalho (15-6/2-2 in the UFC): The 33-year-old featherweight was able to win two bouts in a row with a TKO victory over Daniel Pineda, along with edging out a decision over Rodrigo Damm, but after getting TKO’ed by Darren Elkins in the first round on UFC 158, the Canadian ended his stint with the organization.

Reuben Duran (8-5-1/1-3 in the UFC): The bantamweight could not keep the momentum going his way after winning a “Submission of the Night” award at the TUF 13 Finale with a rear-naked choke over Francisco Rivera, being knocked out by Hugo Viana and, most recently, losing a unanimous decision to George Roop on UFC 158.

Pablo “The Scarecrow” Garza (12-4/3-3 in the UFC): The featherweight hit the ground running in the UFC with two victories in a row, winning an award in both of them: “Knockout of the Night” against Fredson Paixao and “Submission of the Night” versus Yves Jabouin, but followed that up with a couple of defeats to Dustin Poirier and Dennis Bermudez. Even though Garza was able to beat Mark Hominick via unanimous decision, a first-round submission loss to Diego Brandao on UFC on Fuel TV 9 made the organization drop the hammer on the 29-year-old.

Kurt Holobaugh (9-2/0-1 in the UFC): The featherweight completed his second one-and-done stint with a top tier MMA event in a row. After losing to Pat Healy on the final Strikeforce show on January 2013, Holobaugh was beaten by Steven Siler via unanimous decision on UFC 159.

Justin Lawrence (4-2/1-2 in the UFC): The former TUF: Live competitor debuted in great fashion on his first official fight for the organization, winning both “Knockout of the Night” and “Fight of the Night” awards with a head kick over John Cofer, as a lightweight. A decision to drop down to featherweight did not go well for the 22-year-old, as he was finished in two bouts in a row: TKO’ed by Max Holloway on UFC 150, and submitted by Daniel Pineda on the TUF 17 Finale.

Bart Palaszewski (36-17/1-3 in the UFC): The 29-year-old Polish-American made a name for himself over the WEC organization, but could not translate his talents to the UFC. The featherweight endures a three-fight losing streak, most recently being submitted by Cole Miller in the first round on the TUF 17 Finale.

Sam Sicilia (11-3/1-2 in the UFC): The former competitor in the TUF: Live season has lost two fights in a row as a featherweight, being TKO’ed by Rony “Jason” Mariano on UFC 153 and then getting beat by Maximo Blanco via unanimous decision on the TUF 17 Finale.

Issei Tamura (7-4/1-2 in the UFC): The japanese bantamweight also has lost two fights in a row, being TKO’ed by Raphael Assuncao on UFC on Fuel TV 4 and, most recently, KO’ed by T.J. Dillashaw on UFC 158.
