It's going to happen and there's not a lot that can be done about it. However, I don't think it will at all negatively effect MMA as a whole as everyone dies in all types of sports, people die Cheerleading - it is what it is.

I remember a couple years ago a minor league baseball team in Tulsa 3rd base coach was hit in the head with a line drive and died.

Someone will eventually die.

The lefty hand-wringers will bleat about all the unnecessary violence, and terms like "bloodsport" and "cage-fighting" will get tossed about, causing the logical-minded to counter with facts and figures showing how safe MMA actually is- which in turn will promptly be dismissed and/or ignored by the bleeding hearts.

Ultimately, after all the token outrage has been expressed, the sport we love will continue to chug along.

There are just too many dollars to be made, and the civilization we live in is still just barely free enough, and plenty violent enough, to allow it.

I'm more concerned about eye pokes, fix the damn gloves already. We're gonna see some guy with a retina on his finger one day

The gloves aren't the issue. They need to start automatically deducting points for eye pokes. If you take away the fingers in the gloves, you can't grapple. Hell, there are still eye pokes in boxing.

I'm pretty sure people, high profile, died live on screen in F1 races (Senna's name comes first from the top of my head), as well as rallying.

spectators also die in rallying every now and then

but those sports ain't going anywhere

Dan Wheldon in Indy Car and Dale Earnhardt in NASCAR were two major deaths that happened live on TV featuring the biggest stars in the sport.

Absolutely. The point is these are well stablished sports and it is easier to classify a car crash as an accident while somebody dying from a kick to the head delivered with bad intentions not so much. I don't no groups vowing against motorsports.
What I wanted to know is what kind of speech Dana has in his sleeve for something like that.

PS: Senna died at the tracks, but they made him to the hospital or they would have to stop the race.

Yes, it's a complete difference in argumentation if there is an "accident" while doing something where no harm is a goal in that sport and while doing something where harming the other participant with heavy physical damage is actually one of the main goals.

It's dangerous sport but its not the only one, and its not just combat sports that are dangerous either.

American Football
Proper Football (sorry had to get that in)
Motor sports
Boxings
Winter sports (skiing etc)
Extreme sports (mountaineering, sky diving etc)

Those are just a few of the top of head.

I doubt a death will make the sport go away but it may prevent expansions.
