Rothwell vs Vera added to Ufc 164

With the teaser of Overeem returning at Ufc 164 in Milwaukee (Aug 31) and now the addition of Rothwell vs Vera..could this be the start of an all HW main card?

The Ufc wants a big card for the Harley Davidson folk, home-town boy Pettis fights earlier at 163 (Aug 3). FW (125), BW, FW, MW, title-bouts are all scheduled too close, LHW is waiting on the July 6 fight, and GSP ain't fighting in Milwaukee...

Ufc 160 HW headliner could be ready to go by then pending any injuries

I will be the first to say, neither Rothwell or Vera deserve a PPV slot, but this could be the start of something..

HW's available
-Nelson
-Mir
-Cormier
-Browne
-Gonzaga
-Duffee

Werdum/Big Nog fight June 8,

Add Cain/SIlva and JDS/Hunt winners and losers

"Two UFC veterans are targeted to meet in a fight that could very well send the loser packing from the octagon.

Multiple sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Ben Rothwell (32-9 MMA, 2-3 UFC) and Brandon Vera (12-6 MMA, 8-6 UFC) are targeted to meet at UFC 164.

UFC 164 takes place Aug. 31 at Bradley Center in Milwaukee and will be the promotion's second trip to Wisconsin. The main card will air on pay-per-view, though it is not yet know if Rothwell-Vera will be part of the main card or the prelims.

The bout would be Vera's first in the heavyweight division in more than five years, in addition to his first appearance in 12 months. "The Truth" most recently appeared this past August at UFC on FOX 4, where he fought a gutsy three-round affair with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in an unofficial title eliminator. He lost via fourth-round TKO.

Debuting in the UFC as a heavyweight, Vera rocketed up the ranks with four straight wins before losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum sent him to the light heavyweight class. There, he struggled to build momentum, going 4-4 with one no-contest, which arose when his opponent, Thiago Silva, admitted to submitting fake urine for his drug test.

Rothwell, meanwhile, has hopscotched between wins and losses since his exit from the now-defunct IFL. Notably, he rebounded with a first-round KO of Brendan Schaub at UFC 145 before being submitted in his most recent outing by Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC on FX 7. "

Ugh....okay....?

Dude gets stopped by Shogun and controlled by Thiago Silva at 205....now he's going up to Heavyweight?

That's a strange one.

Probably feels he will be able to utilize his speed at heavyweight better. I expect him to fight pretty defensively. Still, if anyone gets a hold of him, I expect him to get rag dolled quite easily. He's between a rock and a hard place. At light heavyweight, he's so lanky and drawn out without much power either, and at heavyweight, well, do I need to really say anything about that?

In other news, I thought Rothwell got his walking papers? Well, I guess he hasn't lost twice in a row yet. His last performance was terrible and he was in awful shape though. Vera should win this fight easily if that Rothwell shows up.

This fight is fine with me, I have no problem with it, I will be there live to watch Vera get a win.

Vera is better suited at HW, he beat Frank Mir and only lost to Sylvia and Werdum.

He beat the 2006 version of Frank Mir, hardly a big accomplishment.

That was Mir's 2nd fight after that horrific crash, and taken very prematurely, doesn't really count in my opinion.

I think Rothwell kills him. Vera did ok in the Shogun fight, but a win there would have been huge and he had the all-or-nothing minset required for that fight. Still got knocked out, and Rua isn't what he used to be either.

Ben isn't the fighter Shogun is, but he's just as tough and a lot bigger, his punches will hurt Vera quickly IMO.

The Shogun fight isnt even the issue, the Thiago Silva fight is the one that has me confused by this. If Thiago can take him down and keep him there what on earth is gonna stop Heavyweights from doing it?

Rothwell is a massive dude and if he gets Vera down he'll kill him. This isnt your 2006 Heavyweight division.
