JB Jones vs. Heavyweights?

Since JBJ has pretty well dominated the LHW division, how would he fare against the top Heavyweights?

Cain?
JDS?
Cormier?
Bigfoot?
Werdum?
Mir?

He's as tall and taller than these guys and has a longer reach. While I doubt he could throw these guys around like he does the LHWs, he could easily put on 20lbs to his walking weight and fight at 6'4" 245lb, so size is not a factor, imo.

Who would he beat, who would he lose to and why?

Cain? Loss
Cormier? Loss
Bigfoot? Win
Werdum? 50/50
Mir? Win

Cain and Cormier would keep the pressure on Jones not letting his reach be an advantage.Bigfoot is to slow and Mir is garbage.

I think he would have a tough time in HW. There would be quite some fighters who are just physically stronger then him, so he won't be able to ragdoll them as easily wrestlingwise as in LHW. And he would have a hard time to compensate this with striking as he lack one punch KO skills.

I'd have to see how he performs at HW first before I truly pass judgement, but as it stands, I think he has a solid chance against all of them.

Against Bigfoot, I think he can take him down and do to him exactly what Cain did.

Against Werdum and Mir, I think he can stand on the outside and use his superior speed and reach outbox them, and mix in a few kicks to get the UD.

Against Dos Santos, I think it would be evenly matched in the stand-up department, but in the later rds, I think Jones would get the takedowns he would need to get the UD.

Cain and Cormier are where the true question marks lie in my eyes. Jones CLEARLY has the most dominant wrestling in the LHW division, but despite that, I still think it's impossible to assert where his wrestling stacks up in the HW division, atleast judging from his Light-Heavyweight performances. My guess, is that Jones wrestling would be evenly matched with Cains and Cormiers causing a stalemate and forcing the stand-up. While Jones has the reach advantage, I think they both have the speed to get Jones with some solid shots. Whether I think that will be enough to win the fight against Jones, I'm not sure. But I would assume that those fights would be a true test of how good JBJ really is.

Jones would likely lose to the big three in Cain, Cormier, and JDS. Everyone else is beatable. Minus Mark Hunt. Mark Hunt takes Jon's head home and mounts it on his wall.

Mir's only hope would be to pull guard and try an arm bar ala Belfort (if he got it that deep, Jones isn't going to pick him up and his arm snaps), or a knee bar ala Lesnar. If Mir fails he winds up in a turtle position and receives a relentless beatdown.

Ditto Werdum.

Bigfoots too slow.

Cain, Cormier and JDS have one punch KO power that JBJ would have to avoid.

FWIW, hypothetical Vegas odds would have Cain a slight favorite at -140.

Ya know, I don't see Jones doing all that great in the HW division. He wont be able to impose his will like he does in the LHW division. I think he'd perform like Stefan Struve, except with more dynamic striking and better defense. Still I see a strategy of pinning him up against the cage and working in some punches to be a sure way to beat him.

I think Jones would have a much more difficult time at HW. His strength is his wrestling ability and ground and pound and guys like Cain and Cormier would be able to out muscle him.

Jones has ok striking but I think JDS and possibly Overeem could likely stuff Jones takedown attempts and outstrike him. Hunt maybe as well but I am still not sold on him. Even Bigfoot might be able to out muscle him and he throws bombs so Jones would have to be careful although Jones would have fairly significant speed advantage.

I think Jones would likely pick Mir and Werdum apart standing while avoiding their mediocre to non existent takedown attempts.

I am more interested in seeing Jones clean out his division first. Would rather see him fight Gus and Silva, maybe even Teixeira if he can beat someone worthwhile.
