Bets and Wagers

Section 5363 does not make it illegal for a mere player to make bets or wagers. Rather, the Act applies only to those involved in the business of betting or wagering. Section 5262 defines a bet:

*

as the staking or risking of property in order to win something of value based on the outcome of:
o

a contest of others
o

a sporting event, or
o

a game subject to chance
*

the purchase of a chance to win a lottery or other prize the award of which is predominantly subject to chance
*

the making of a wager prohibited under the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, or
*

as including "any instructions or information pertaining to the establishment or movement of funds by the bettor or customer in, to, or from an account with the business of betting or wagering."

Analysis of Internet Gambling Funding Ban

so by the way i read it, it is not illegal for you to bet, it is illegal for them to allow you to if they are running the site in US

Who said betus.com is in the USA? Just because US is in the name, doesn't mean the company is USA based.

Also, they probably don't own the servers that run or host the site. I'll bet their hosting company isn't US based either.

ive bet on betus.com and had no problems and im in the US. it may be illegal, but they paid me my $. ive used bodog here too. the only difference since the law change is that you cant have your winnings direct deposited anymore, they send you a check. (and it takes 3 weeks to get to you!)

The registrar and the url is US based. That doesn't mean the company is. Bodogfight.com is based in Canada and it sends its funds to the Cayman Islands, yet the url is a .com because that is the most recognizable.
