Daniel Cormier Fires Back at Jon Jones

AlphaDawg 06-03-2013 06:23 PM

Jones implied DC hasn't started cutting to LHW yet, so DC confirms that he hasn't started cutting to LHW yet but challenges Jones anyways. I wouldn't call that firing back. DC is the one calling out Jones, not the other way around. If DC wants to fight Jones, he needs to cut weight instead of talking trash and staying at HW for whatever reason.

DC trying the new strategy 'I learned I can't get to JBJ's fighting weight so I'll make him fight at mine."

Sorry bro, isn't how it really works. You can't beat JBJ at HW (with a limit of 265) and claim you could beat him at 205 (which I do not think he can do personally at 205 or HW).

DC already talked his way into the fight, all he has to do is hit that 205 mark alive.

DC can easily make this fight if the UFC wants it, he fought at 96kg in wrestling for years.

Yeah but its noted that Daniel Cormier had problems weight cutting for a long time. In 2008 he was actually hospitalized AFTER the weigh ins for making the 96kg weight cut and was forced to withdraw for his match and 96kg is 211.5 pounds.

BEIJING — U.S. freestyle wrestling team captain and medal hopeful Daniel Cormier was withdrawn from his Olympic competition Thursday while in the hospital recovering from complications due to excessive weight cutting.
"For 10 years I've been taking my body where it didn't want to go, going up and down. I guess my body had enough," Cormier told his hometown newspaper, The Advertiser of Lafayette, La., in a phone interview from the hospital.

Cormier, 29, two-time Olympian and a bronze medalist at the 2007 world championships, developed the medical issues in the hours after his official weigh-in Wednesday afternoon. He made weight in the 211.5-pound class.

USA Wrestling said it withdrew Cormier on the advice of doctors. No replacement wrestler was permitted. On a day when the U.S. freestyle team needed a lift, Cuba's Michel Batista walked onto the mat and had his arm lifted in victory at the time of his scheduled opener with Cormier.

"Up to 8:30 this morning, he (Cormier) called me up and said, 'I'm going to come over and just warm up and see how I feel and go out there and compete,' " said U.S. coach Kevin Jackson.

"I said, 'I think the saying about the doctor knows best is really what you should follow. … Your health is a lot more important than any medal at the Olympics Games or any games.' "

USA Wrestling, the sport's national governing body, issued a release saying that after Cormier was treated first by the USOC medical staff at a clinic in the Athletes Village and then taken to a Beijing hospital. Cormier's wife, Robin, and mother, Audrey Cormier Benoit, were with him at the hospital.

William Kuprevich, chief medical officer of the U.S. Olympic team, said Cormier was initially unable to rehydrate by drinking fluids, so he was given intravenous fluids. "When you are dehydrated, kidney function decreases. His condition reflected that," he said.

Might Cormier have kidney damage? "It's too early to interpret," Kuprevich said.

Said Jackson: "It was always a question of his health and what would happen if did put his kidneys under this type of stress, whether it be a warm-up or whether it be a match."

Cormier wrestled in the 185-pound class as a college senior at Oklahoma State.

"It's not a secret that Daniel has struggled with his weight for years prior to this competition," Jackson said.

Not saying he could not make 205 as he could but it would not be easy and it would be through weight cutting it would be through a proper long term diet.

And please dont try to argue the term easy cause cutting weight for someone who has had kidney problems in the past for exactly that reason is never "easy". Quiet frankly its scary.

Just fight Cain you goof, that or wait till you're old and gray and Jones has bulked up properly for HW.

He should put down the thickburger or shut the hell up. He hasn't done shit to earn a catchweight fight.

"I know you're the champ at a lower weight, but you need to come up and fight me at my weight!"

Seriously? How the hell does DC think he has any right to call the champ out to something like that? DC needs to focus on looking good in his next few fights, then him doing that would be somewhat plausible. Till then, he just needs to shut up.

I'd love to see Jones wreck DC.
