Why UFC should be glad Cro Cop lost.

Cro Cop losing, and geting dominated like he did is so much better for the UFC then this guy geting knocked out. People are like "UFC is probably pissed about him losing!" even after spending all the money they did, him losing just made a super star out of Gonzaga, Cro Cop will always be a superstar in the MMA world, but him losing like that and just geting dominated all fight shows the UFC has some really good heavyweights and that just made another big name fighter who was a nobody before. We all say Fedor is the best, which is true. But we also said Cro Cop would run through the division and that didn't happen. I know Pride has some great fighters, but are we underestimating UFC HWs? I right now after watching the Fedor vs. Cro Cop fight and Cro Cop vs. this guy. Also watching some of his other fights, this guy may be one of the most versatile fighters we have seen since Fedor. He has great hands good wrestling and world class JJ and a great Boxers chin. Honestly what fighter in recent memory is so polished and well balanced?

I agree and I was very happy to see Gonzaga win that fight. Cro cop will earn his UFC title match I am sure of it. This makes even more to look forward to in the heavyweight division. A few weeks ago hearing about a Coture VS Gonzaga match would have sounded pretty boring, but now I cant wait to see Gonzaga again.

I'm sure Cro Cop will be put against some tough competition when he comes back and then quickly to a title shot.

Yeah Cro Cop will get his wins, if he doesn't retire. But Gonzaga is really something else though. The dude is scary.

I dont read around every single rumour there is, but I dont feel Cro Cop will retire after this.

Yeah Gonzaga really is something else, I cant believe how well he planned out this fight and really stuck to it. Blocking and catching the left kick, taking him on the ground, pressing him against the fence (Cro Cop who dont train in a cage), I love to see "smart" fighters, like coture and many others that not only can beat an oponnant with skills and brute strenght but someone who can beat them in a "chess game" sort of thing. You do this and I counter like that.

Name a list of money fights right now for Gonzaga. There are none, the guy is not a draw and was never really in the big scheme of things for mainstream fans. If Cro Cop won we potentially had:

Mirko/Randy
Mirko/Nog 2
Mirko/Arlovski
Mirko/Fedor 2
Mirko/Hunt 2 (mma)
Mirko/Lidell (cha ching)
Mirko/Verra

Gonzaga knocking out Mirko doesn't make him a star to the new fans. This just causes "oh man that Cro Cop guy was overrated, look this hairy ass dude kicked his head in". It's sad really, but I'm sure Cro Cop will bounce back. All the credit in the world to Gonzaga, none to the UFC. I think the smarter fight would have been Cro Cop/Sylvia (if Tim was good to go) or Cro Cop/Verra

I don't think they should have done Cro Cop/Sylvia because he Syliva just lost and dosen't deserve to fight Cro Cop. I think the match up was the right one, and it has now made another big name in the UFC HW division. Randy new that Gonzaga was a bad ass, and he called it before the fight began. I don't really know if was a good thing or not that Cro Cop lost though.

Im not taking anything from Gonzaga but don't forget all the factors. Gonzaga had a cage to push Cro Cop against and Fedor did not. Also Fedor could not elbow Cro Cop wich was clearly a major part in his fight against Gonzaga. Finally when Fedor fought Cro Cop his hand was messed up and he didn't even try to go for a submission.

I'm happy that Gonzaga won because everyone expected Cro Cop to win. But the problem the UFC faces is that Mirko is more of a cash cow then Gonzaga. Cro Cop is the no. 2 heavyweight in the world so he is a lot easier to market then Gonzaga. Now they have to work thier butts off just to make Gonzaga seem more appealling fighter then Mirko!

I agree there is less money to be made with the name Gonzaga than Cro Cop. But now Gonzaga earned a chance at Randy's title by beating Cro Cop, just imagine if Gonzaga also beats Randy, then I think Gonzaga will become a draw. how could he not be a draw then? After beating Cro Cop, known to be the #2 fighter in the world and Randy, also has to be considered one of the best fighters in the world. There is no money in the Gonzaga name yet, but there is potential, we could see a star being born here. Never know.
