Are you prepared...

...for when the GOAT is really gone?

Anderson Silva has the prestige, the records and the attention as being the most versatile, evolving and impressive fighter of all times. Even though he still blesses us at the age of 38 with his outstanding displays of greatness, which makes very good fighters look like they are just "meh" competitors, many want to see the Spider gone with the wind for a long time already.

Intriguing. Sure the show will go on, with new talented up comers, but the moments right after Anderson stops and that will come sooner or later, no matter if he just retires or even if Weidman or somebody else in the future stops him, will impact on everybody, including those who "hate" him so much.

The expression "beware what you wish for" comes to my mind and for some reason I see our fellow poster TheLyotoLegion and others reacting like the following video:

Anderson will be missed.

Repped...haha. So true...where do I get one of those ducks.

Marcus Aurelius: Tell me again, Maximus, why are we here?
Maximus: For the glory of the Empire, sire.

Baked, not fried... the healthy choice.

Silva gone will tear a huge hole into the world of MMA. Sure, there will be new champs, and people fighting other people will still be fun to watch, but that extra thing will be gone. I think Anderson Silva is one special fighter in a lifetime. He truly embodies the essence of Martial Arts.

It's going to be like in the Lord of the Rings, after the Ring is destroyed, the Elves have left and the magic in Middle Earth has gone...

why do you guys think he's leaving? He's hardly taken any damage in the UFC and he hasn't lost any speed, even if he lost 10% of his speed he'd still be faster than everyone else. My guess is he quits after Bones or goes until he fades like Fedor

The embarrassment of being dethroned will be enough to keep him out of the octagon I'd imagine.

Chuck left, Randy left, Fedor left, everyone leaves. His departure won't be anymore important than theirs. Another MW will take his place and we will move on the same way we moved on with the above mentioned.

Nobody stood a chance against BJ at LW, nobody was ever gonna beat Fedor again, Machida was gonna retire undefeated...

The point is Anderson will lose again sooner or later. And so will GSP and Jones.

Why embarrassment? I don't think this word is proper. Maybe he loses his motivation imediately following a loss, but why he would feel embarrassment?

Everyone leaves, indeed, but the "above mentioned" league, although dominant fighters, no doubt about it, never counted with the versatility and creativiness of Anderson nor achieved his records, what leaves them far behind in any GOAT or P4P discussion, so I have to disagree Anderson departure won't be more important than theirs.

He hasn't defended his title in a year. He may as well be gone right now.

His absence will certainly have an effect, but we've pretty much got Jon Jones lined up to take his place, if not surpass him.
