lmfao...Dana goes ham.

I've been saying this for years though, who the hell cares what John Cholish and Gabe Reudinger make....they are lucky they are even on the platform where they can even make bonuses and be on national tv and get sponsors.

I'll play the devils advocate here;

A lot of fighters fight safe because to them winning or losing is the difference between being fed or being unemployed. When each fighter is on the dockets to be shipped out early in their UFC career after one minor slip up they all train to win to maintain their career. The new up and comers can't take the risks and put it all on the line because they know if they get flash ko'ed in a blaze of glory they won't be cheered for their efforts they'll be fired by their boss so they fight safe, they fight not to lose instead of fighting to win. It's easier to be employed fighting like Fitch than it is to fight like Silva, there is a distinct possibility that the pay structure and ease of which fighters are kicked out creates the boring fights on the undercards because anyone that's not a Jon Jones type (overwhelmingly more skilled and powerful) is going to fight safe to be able to eat. Maybe you won't get that big bonus grinding out a win but not many guys are fired after they win, if any, I can't remember any. When you go for the finish you open yourself up exponentially to counter attacks and if you're sure you can grind your opponent down by training for those grueling slow grappling matches then for some guys it may be advantageous.

Then work a second ******* job. Everyone wants to fight full before they even make it to the UFC then guess what idiot, you're going to be hungry. Guys like gsp worked full time while they were still in the UFC so they could support themselves. Ronda rousey worked three jobs before she made it. Get the **** over not making enough on the undercard to support yourself and your entire family and pay to train. Work a job during the day you ****wit. I'm so sick of these guys bitching all the time, they are ******* pussies. Work like everyone else and then train so one day you can fight full time, you don't get to just quit your job and train and become a millionaire.

Secondly fighters fight "safe" because they are shit, it has nothing to do with pay.

Drop the aggressive attitude towards posters, it's not needed or wanted.

As for the video, Dana has a few good points.

MMA is just too green right now. I understand both sides. There is no other major sport where as a pro you are forced to work another job to be able to afford to compete in your sport. I mean what if guys in the NFL could only practice/lift weights/watch footage in the 4 hours each day they arent at work and then the other 50% of the league was doing it 8 hours a day. It's obvious who's going to have the edge. Like i said, i agree with both sides.

Really? Pretty sure Roy Jones fought a fireman on HBO.

And that goes for a lot of fringe contenders in boxing.

I'd imagine similar is the case with really bad tennis players.

Pretty much any team sport though is going to pay well, and even if it doesn't, like low leagues of soccer, football and baseball, typically your opportunity costs are a lot lower. But it's also apples to oranges...in the case of the NFL and other team sports, you have an individual owner and organization that is trying to maximize your performance for HIM to win.

The promoter in individual sports is neutral and thus has no stake in your training or preparation for fights, nor the result.

Secondly, a lot of the times, the fascination with winning in team sports is both a business move, and just for the sake of fun and competition. A lot of the owners are absurdly rich...guys like Jerry Jones and such are likely richer than all of the UFC's assets combined. The Cowboys is as much a toy, and an obsession...a game....than an actual financial and business venture. Some of the newer owners only field teams as competitive s to not hurt their bottom line, but others don't really give a damn because this is just one of many investments they have millions of dollars tied up into...and generally it's going to be very profitable.

So in reality, you know a way you could increase fighter pay?

Have the UFC like the IFL where fighters are sponsored by multi-million/billion dollar owners and distribute the revenue that way...however to do that, you are going to need a shitton of TV revenue....which MMA just isn't generating right now.

Golf not so much though. Golf is awesome and anyone who makes the tour is living the dream.

I wish I could golf.
