This is Mixed Martial Arts, and one of the most basic & important tenets of martial arts is respect - at all times. Neither fighter has shown that. Perhaps one is worse than the other, but neither cancels the other out.

What Silva did was not only direspectful, but shameful.

Dropping your hands to bait an opponent is a legitimate tactic.

Anderson went further though. He was staggering backwards with his eyes half closed pretending to be hurt when he got clipped by the 5th punch in a combination.

It looked so bad I immediately told my friends in the room people will say the fight was fixed and/or Silva intentionally lost the fight.

Maybe it was hubris and Silva just thought he would never get caught while clowning around...only Anderson knows.

Whatever his reasoning, it looked like Silva did not give his best. It looked like Silva basically laid down for Weidman and just gave him the title.

Whether that is the case or not is irrelevant. That's what it looked like which is disrepectful to not only Chris Weidman but the sport and the fans too.

I didn't get see Chris Weidman beat the G.O.A.T. I got to see Weidman KO a champ doing his best impression of a drunk at a bar.

That's maybe an ideal, mainly in Budo philosophy(and not all martial arts are Budo), but it's not even always followed in traditional martial arts. And Mixed Martial Arts isn't even a traditional martial art, there is no philosophy behind it to support moral values, it's a modern sport strongly connected with the entertainment business. If some athletes follow some philosophical approach in their understanding of MMA, it's their personal choice, but it's not something that's inherent in MMA.

But obviously for many it's the better choice. I consider it the higher & harder road to travel. One shouldn't rag on that.

Ethnic Slurs? Really? Try to ask a Brazilian how offensive is to be called a Playboy before jumping on conclusions. There are some around.

Almost nothing.
Sure in Brazil somebody can get lynched to death by a gang for saying hi to the wrong girl, so stupid excuses to justify violence are made by the minute, but realistically speaking, calling someone a playboy carries zero offense.

In my opinion... respect in a fight means protecting yourself at all times and trying your best to win at all times, acknowledging that your opponent is a dangerous man.

I agree with Chris. Silva is a disrespectful peice of shit. Saturday night he looked like a fool.

He was protecting himself and trying his best to win. Striking with your hands down is a legitimate style of fighting that gives you an advantage offensively and with or without the theatrics he would have defended the same way.

I wouldn't call what Silva did as being disrespectful necessarily, he just did'nt have any other way to win the fight so he tried his best to dance around and taunt Weidman so that Weidman would make a mistake.

Apparently Silva also shouted to Weidman in between rounds to keep the fight standing because it's what the fans wanted to see, clearly after the first round Silva wanted no part of Weidman taking him down again. Weidman then proceeded to rock Silva's world while standing up with him, both by evading Silva's strikes and Weidman landing with his. The best part about all this is that Silva did'nt even land a punch the entire fight. Weidman took it to Silva on the ground and at Silva's game standing but what really stands out is that Silva could not do a thing about it.
