Roy Jones would embarrass Silva

Can't say for sure, but I think a Roy Jones boxing match would be a nightmare for Anderson Silva, after seeing his latest outing. Prior to the KO from Weidman, Silva was not able to connect with a single punch, even though Weidman stayed in range. Weidman actually out out-pointed Silva in both rounds. Weidman and Silva have identical reaches, which is something Silva is not used to. He'd have a tiny reach advantage against Jones, but nothing significant, and Roy Jones' ability to slip punches in the pocket would be lightyears ahead of Weidman's.

Something tells me Silva is reconsidering that endeavor. In fact, I'm not sure now he'd fair very well against Diaz or GSP who also have very similar reaches to him and good head movement. Couple that with GSP's TD abilities and hand speed and the problems are compounded.

Those were mostly lazy range finders and it has nothing to do with why Anderson would be a big underdog against a great pro boxer even if he is declining. Most of the best boxers would get wrecked going into a kickboxing match with a top flight kickboxer too. Striking in MMA, Kickboxing, and Boxing are completely different from one another.

Anderson never wanted the fight because he thought he would smoke RJJ. He wants to fight him because he wants to test himself against one of his idols.

I doubt Silva will get embarrassed by Jones with bigger gloves to defend himself and shorter rounds to recuperate. anything can happen though in a fight

Well those range finders didn't find their range. He threw a bunch of range finders at Forest and Stephen which happened to find their range just fine. May be the most I've seen Silva miss in a similar time period.

Silva was doing his normal thing, slipping and swinging but looked terrible in this fight. Perhaps Weidman is a class above Forest and Stephen, perhaps a bit longer, perhaps a bit quicker. But Silva was getting punched in the face, and perhaps getting frustrated and trying to save face with the clowning.

Take a look at the fight again, but this time keep an eye on Weidman. Stayed in the pocket, and wasn't the slightest bit in trouble. Looked very relaxed and in control.

Does this thread really need to clog the UFC section more than it already is??

You'd have to define "need." Does anything really need anything?

He wasn't planting his feet in the pocket he was sliding away and towards Anderson maintaining his range. You really can't compare it to how Forrest fought him. It was a disciplined defense and attack versus a sloppy one. The way Vitor fought him was fairly disciplined as well and he got highlight reel KOed. Being composed and using a proper strategy doesn't mean you won't get your head knocked off. People lose in areas where they should have an advantage all the time in MMA there are just too many styles and variables. That is why what GSP and Anderson accomplished has been so impressive.

Yes, of course, what the hell sort of question is that? We need water and food, shelter and warmth.

This thread should be in general discussion or even boxing. MMA Smacktalk could be fitting too.

The front page of the UFC section is like 85% Anderson and Weidman... it's a little ridiculous.

"We" would be anyone, not anything. Big difference, so the question stands.

Another question. Does this thread really need to hear your whining?

This is the most idiotic threat title I ever saw around here. If at least was the other way around we could consider an embarrassment. But in which idiotic dimension being defeated or even knocked out by nothing less than a pro Boxing legend like Roy Jones would be considered an embarrassment for Anderson? Who, by the way had the guts to call the challenge himself.
