Weidman 187 cm
Jon Jones 193
Cain 185 cm

Weidman actually is taller than the heavyweight champion and he is taller than some of Jones recent opponents. If Weidman packed on muscles could he beat Jon Jones ?

IMO I think he would lose vs Jones since his style does not match up very well

- He does have ok footwork but not good enough to be able to constantly close in on Jones huge range

- Since Jones is an outstanding wrestler himself and will at fight night have a few pounds weight advantage it would be hard for Weidman to take Jones down. They could nullify each others wrestling. This leads to a "rerun" of Jones vs Rashad Evans (= Jones by UD)

...Yeah- hard to disagree with that post. Weidman has to defend that belt a few times before he's a legit P4P candidate. Whoever said Weidman would beat Jones must hate Jon cause there's no way Chris would get past 3 rounds with JBJ. Jones doesn't clown in the cage he just dominates everyone with his well-rounded, sick skills. JBJ would toss Weidman around like a rag doll and finish him brutally like he did to Sonnen...

Bones would destroy him both standing and on the ground. People keep underestimating this guys wrestling. How many guys does he need to manhandle before people start giving him respect. No one has taken him down. Let me repeat that; no one has taken him down.

Here is a list of guys with wrestling backgrounds he made look like jokes in the wrestling department.

Matyushenko
Bader
Hammil
Vera
Sonnen
Rampage
Rashad

None of them could do jack squat to him with wrestling or stop his takedowns.

The guy is a monster he competed for one year and won the JUCO national championship and would have been a contender for a Div I national championship every year if he had stuck with it.

I'm not a Jones hater but not a fan, and I think he would smoke Weidman. But down the road if they are still champs in 2 or 3 years, it isn't a fight I wouldn't mind seeing.

WTF are some of you guys talking about? A guy with decent striking ( no kicks), good athleticism, and great wrestling would beat a guy with great striking, great wrestling, and great athleticism? This has gotten to the point of ludicrous. 10 threads about Weidman and Silva and now one about how Weidman would beat Jones....hell he would beat GSP as well. Cain? Sure thing. Ridiculous. This forum is full of mass amounts of silliness.

He probably would beat Georges senseless...

Jones is a much stronger guy imo, and would def win the wrestling exchanges. He'd also stay on the outside and do what he does best, push guys back and jab their face off. Weidman would get predictable at shooting in, and Jones would have the option to grapple or not. If they did grapple, Jones wouldn't have too much trouble staying on top.

Vs Cain, really? Cain would be able to out muscle him and probably would accidently KO him.

i think whoever the better wrestler/grappler is would win fight, whether it be dec/stoppage or sub.. both have amazing top games and can finish the fight, whoever could get the takedowns would win IMO. both have 100% TDD:confused02:

Jones, if were to pull a Silva and just hang that chin out there and throw no punches, MIGHT lose.

But Jones wouldn't do that.

Jones wins via murder in round 1. No doubt. Weidman showed me nothing against Silva. Sonnen brought the fight much harder (in both fights) and Jones ragdolled him.

Weidman is nothing special.

I also do not care for Bones. But I do respect him. Bones would cry if he lost towWeidman. And rightfully so.

Jones wrestling is too dominant, especially his ground strikes. I am no grappling expert but he displays incredible grappling skills. His standup gets hyped because of fighters being cautious about the takedown.
At LHW the only guy I can see maybe beating Jones is Cormier. Thats Cormier fully adjusting to LHW and having two fights before facing Jones.

Weidman is too small for my liking. If Jones fought strictly standing then I can definetly see Machida, lil Nog and Mousasi beating Jones. Thats if they stand not worrying about the takedown.
