Sucks, awesome fighter to watch, but I think he probably realised after the devestating loss to Wanderlei, and being 1-3 in his last 4, that he was never going to win the belt, and he's a smart guy, knows he can't take too many shots like the ones he took from Wandy.

A bit early IMO. I think he has a bit more left, but it is smart for him to retire at this point, just so he doesn't take any more unnecessary damage. If he feels that it's unsafe for him to continue fighting, who would I be go against that?

I think he'll still have a job in the UFC as in analyst. He'd make a great color commentator as well.

Good move, he knows he was never going anything more than a gatekeeper.

Besides, he's got his commentating, so he'll be ok.

A bit young for it but he probably got assurances about a post fighting career with the ufc. Did he say why he was retiring?

Well if i was to guess I'd say...

He probably makes as much commentating as he does fighting. He probably thinks he's gone as far as he can go in MMA. The UFC probably have other things lined up for up such as ambassador type roles.

He's one of the most likeable and respected guys in the sport. I think he's made a good call and I wish him all the best!

Bummer.

I'll be sad to see him go. I thought he'd definitely break the top 5 rankings at MW.
