Belcher to 205

Some 185er's in the UFC like Wanderlei Silva have decided that they don't want to cut that much weight and will fight at 205 instead. The latest middleweight to make that decision is Alan Belcher.

For fighters in lighter divisions, sometimes the decision to drop a weight class doesn't seem that difficult. 10-15 pounds doesn't seem like an insurmountable task, especially if you're not huge for your division to start with. But with the gap between light heavyweight and middleweight being 20 pounds, it's tough for some guys to continue justifying a huge cut.. A few UFC middleweights, notably Wanderlei Silva, have decided they just don't want to make that cut any more and have decided to carry on at 205. And according to UFC Tonight, the latest of those men is Alan Belcher:

"According to his manager, he's serious about moving back up to light heavyweight. He wants to return in December."
Belcher (18-8) entered the UFC way back in 2006 and has gone 9-6 in the organization. He had been on a four-fight win streak that brought him to the cusp of the top 10, but consecutive losses to Yushin Okami and Michael Bisping have stalled him there. He has competed once as a light heavyweight in the UFC, and fought at a 195 lb. catchweight another time. He won both of those bouts.

That's too bad. I've always wanted to see him vs Anderson. Very inconsistent throughout his career.

Maximus: For the glory of the Empire, sire.

Baked, not fried... the healthy choice.

I don't see his ceiling getting too much higher with this move really. My confidence in him in general is shaky.

I like MMA less because of this forum

I don't see this as a good move for Belcher, he isn't a huge MW by any means. If he doesn't want to cut so much weight, don't get so fat between fights. Wand's frame easily holds LHW and with his power he remains dangerous, Belcher, not so much.

He wasn't a real big MW, he'll be a smaller LHW.

I see him routinely getting murdered at LHW. An average at best MW, moving up a division where he will be undersized against some very powerful people? About as smart decision as his tattoo

Belcher won't be undersized, he's a huge MW.

Nothing will come of it though, just terrible fight IQ.

Aside from his last stellar performance at 205 against the ever dangerous Sean Salmon(!) this is the worst move Belcher could make career-wise.
