Philippou-Carmont set for UFC 165

Quote:
Middleweight contender Constantinos Philippou will face Francis Carmont on Sept. 21 at UFC 165 in Toronto, promotion officials announced Tuesday.

Philippou, who is ranked 10th among middleweights by ESPN.com, has not fought since Dec. 29, when he knocked out Tim Boetsch in the third round at UFC 155. The loss was Boetsch's first at 185 pounds.

He was scheduled to take on Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza on May 18 in Brazil, but during a training session Philippou was cut above his left eye and withdrew from the fight.

Philippou has won five fights in a row, improving to 12-2 professionally. He is 5-1 in UFC competition.

Carmont, who was born in France, currently trains at Tristar Gym in Montreal. He is 21-7 overall, 5-0 in UFC.
So UFC 165's main card looks like this...

Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson
Renan Barao vs Eddie Wineland
Brendan Schaub vs Matt Mitrione
Pat Healy vs Khabib Nuramagomedov
Constantinos Philippou vs. Francis Carmont

Not a bad card per-say, could be four brutal finishes or five boring striking/wrestling matches. Carmont's won 10 fights in a row but has looked horrible in his decision wins and a champion in his finishes. Philippou's got a nice big target to unload on, or he'll be exposed to not being able to handle the wrestling at this top level.

this fight makes little sense for Philippou, but it's a great fight for Carmont. Anyway, I hope Costa gets a nice KO here.

Pickett, Cerrone, Matt Brown, Bisping, Weidman, Barnett, Lawler

I think it makes sense in the way that Carmont's wrestling is between the guys Costa's beaten (Mcgee, Boetsch) and the next guys he's going to face (Munoz, Sonnen, Okami).

The next title shot looks like it will be the winner of this little tournament

Okami/Jacare
Phillippou/Carmont

I think Carmont is overrated. I thought he lost to both Lawlor and Larkin.

Costa should win comfortably.

I feel the same way. Costa is towards the bottom of the upper teir at MW imo, but he'll show that he should be and Carmont is a level down.

I like MMA less because of this forum
