Silva still hoping for super fights with Jones and GSP

Prior to his bout with Chris Weidman at UFC 162, Anderson “The Spider” Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) was expected to be involved in at least one ‘Super Fight’ with either light heavyweight champion Jon Jones or welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.
However, that was predicated on Anderson defeating Weidman, which we all know did not end being the case. Silva though still believes super fights can happen for him, although he does remain focused on his rematch with Weidman, as he stated during a radio interview to “Panico”, on Friday:
“I really wanted this fight (with GSP) to happen, he’s a guy that plays by the rules, doesn’t take too many risks. That fight may happen, or maybe not. He said he doesn’t want it, I don’t know. I’ll train and remain focused to fight (Weidman) on Dec. 28.”
“He’s like that (Ayrton) Senna’s rival. They used to compete at the same time and one of them was technical and the other played by the rules. (GSP) is the UFC’s Alain Prost,” Silva added, comparing himself to Brazilian racing driver Senna, who won three Formula One world championships.
As for a potential showdown with light heavyweight champ Jon “Bones” Jones, Silva had this to say:
“I hope it happens, That’s the fight everybody is waiting for.”
If a ‘super fight’ involving Anderson Silva was to happen, who would you rather see “The Spider” pitted against, Jones or GSP? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!
I bet he is. Might have to get the title back before a super fight can materialize, at least at the same caliber!

He was finished by Weidman and no longer is the number 1 P4P, therefore i have zero interest in watching him fight GSP or Bones

I think St. Pierre is going to retire after the Hendricks fight, win or lose.

Anderson blew it, I agree with the term, but anybody can lose at any given time, including GSP. Anderson was busy winning too, in a streak longer than GSP, btw. Nobody who enters in the fight business should be called a coward.

Even after the Silva loss these are still some of the biggest fights to make in MMA. Silva lost his title but the guy is still 16-1 in the UFC.

The only difference I see now is the negotiating power swinging from Silva to GSP and Jones. GSP and Jones can now set the fight on their own terms like fight location, timing and PR duties.

He loses one fight and your not interested in seeing what could be two awesome fights? You really don't want to see Jones and GSP face a real challenge for once?

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

Sonnen lost a title fight at a lower division and got a Title shot in the next one up, so maybe Anderson should just do that. He may not be champion but I would really like to see that fight.

while everyone was calling GSP boring, Anderson was busy entertaining. I guess you can't please all the poeple all the time.

he may not be no1. right now. But he is the same fighter he was a month ago. Would be nice for him to go into these fights on a wining streak, just so he has doubts stimmying his style.

My advice to Anderson would be to start working on his shuffleboard game because the next time Weidman puts them hands on him Anderson will be in the senior center enjoying retirement.
