The funniest part of this that reports I have read say Spike hated the card too and that is why its no longer free, spurprised no backlash has come about from that. Will see if I can find the link. Mods should probably merge this with the other thread about the same thing.

The rumor reporter seems confused. The mail says it's from Zuffa, not Spike.
I highly doubt Spike would reject the event based on the card. I doubt they'd understand the difference. Besides, Rich Franklin and Forrest Grifin, especially, would make this card easier to sell to fans who were introduced to UFC through Spike.
I don't see why Spike wouldn't want to air this. UFC 70 gave them incredibly strong ratings in their target demographic. Dana White said that Zuffa lost a lot of money by having UFC70 on Spike, though, so they may have changed the deal, which made Spike balk.
My guess is that the root cause of UFC72 being on PPV is Zuffa needing more revenue to cover the costs of production. The deal wasn't worth it to Spike, so they said no.

Yeah, no shit. They are going to eat shit on PPV buys on this one. Thats good though. It'll hopefully teach them not to put together a half ass card like this and expect results.

Too true....good points. That is why I pointed out in the "rumors" section.

I imagine they'll still make much more in PPV buys than they would through Spike.
Keep in mind, this event is more about market development in Europe than it is about market penetration in the US. As long as the fans show up in Ireland, UFC will be happy.

I was just offering my commentary (whatever that's worth ). I wasn't getting on you for posting it.
I'd rep you, but "[i] must spread some Reputation around before giving it to IcemanCometh again."
