It's great to see Jacare in the UFC, the MW division desperately needs more depth and this helps a lot. With some improved wrestling he could very well hold the belt at some point.

I expected Jacare to defend the takedown or reverse/submit on the ground, have an advantage standing, and take the win with a late TKO or decision but damn ... that was something else. Okami wasn't in that thing for even a second. Jacare is for real, and getting better every day.

He has always had amazing timing and crazy power but yeah, there's no doubt he's improving at an alarming rate. You should go back and watch Jacare V Rockhold again, he was so green but so dangerous.

I might just do that ... rewatched some of his old fights the last few days, just to get pumped and also make sure I was making the right pick on the forum GP with him, cos Okami's no joke.

Didn't watch much of the Rockhold one but even against Lawler he was landing good, and he took some of lawler's best shots and recovered well. Kennedy he was dominating on the feet too. But every next fight he was getting crisper and tighter.

It's really pleasantly surprising to find a top BJJ guy that moves so well, strikes so fast and accurately, and packs so much power. Most of them tend to lean on the BJJ too much and never learn how to strike properly. The only other top BJJ guy I can think of with good striking is Werdum, and maybe Gonzaga is borderline but mostly just power and not as much technique. The rest like Maia, Leites, Magalhaes, all the Gracies, Arona, Almeida, Aoki etc. are possibly the worst strikers in all of MMA.

The MW division is completely different now that Anderson isn't champ anymore, i really wish the rematch wasn't going to happen and we could see Weidman defend the belt against a few others first.

Jacare was never going to fight Anderson. So it would have been cool to see him have a run at the title before Anderson reclaims the gold.

You are right about the majority of BJJ guys, I would like to throw Shields in there too

I might go back and watch some other fights of his too. Jacare's explosiveness has always impressed me, he's such a great athlete.

I remember the Shlemenko fight sticks out to me because after the fight Alex said "I don't train BJJ, but now I will", even though he'd won his last 2 fights by triangle choke. Jacare has the ability to beat anybody in the division because the great strikers are at risk of getting Maia'd and the great wrestlers get jacked up on the feet or submitted if they try to take him down. He's a nightmare for anyone.

Oh yeah how could I forget Shields, that guy almost tops the BJJ K1 contenders list

But don't you worry, you'll still get to see Jacare get his title shot and keep his friendship with Anderson ... if you know what I mean .

I think he's a tougher fight for Weidman style wise. Anderson can be softened up on the ground with wrestling, with Jacare it's a time bomb if you go down there and ever dangerous on the feet.

At the same time if Jacare hypothetically did fight Anderson, I don't think he matches up as well, because his wrestling is good but not necessarily good enough to get Anderson down. Without as much of a takedown threat, Anderson is deadly standing.

But besides that I agree, Jacare is too well rounded and a nightmare matchup for anyone in the divsion.

My favorite part of the fight was afterwards when everyone was doing the Gator Chomp in the crowd. That was pretty awesome to see, something you don't normally get at MMA events.
