Awesome wrestler with long range vs Knockout artist with good footwork and great takedown defence. Stylewise Gus gets advantage in this one but Jones is on such a high level. I am not sure if the style advantage is enough.
Gus has good boxing but he hasn't been able to KO any top 10 guy, I don't think he's starting with Jones, a guy Machida, Rashad, Shogun and Rampage couldn't touch. He knocked out a bunch of low level guys before the UFC but a lot of people do that until they get to the big leagues.
I'd say Rampage was still somewhat near prime when Jones took him out, he is a better and more powerful boxer by far than Gus and Jones was beating him on the feet before he subbed him easily.
Also Gus has terrible arm reach for a tall boxer and Jones can continue to box from miles away. He has longer legs but he hardly has good kicks to use them with, and in either case too many kicks against a wrestler like Jones will get him taken down. Rampage, Bader, Vlad, Vera etc. all had actual wrestling creds and better TDD than Gus, and all of them got taken down easily ... I don't see how Gus plans on keeping it standing for very long. To punch Jones he's gonna have to get close to him, and if he gets close he's gonna get clinched and tossed. Once down, he hasn't shown anything to threaten off his back.
I think this is a longshot for him but yes you can't write off a guy as talented as Gus. He is solid everywhere, I just don't think he beats Jones anywhere, even on the feet where it's unlikely to stay. If Davis could take down and submit Gus then so can Jones.
