Hendricks has not yet signed up for proper drug testing before UFC 167

Not looking good for UFC 167, Hendricks and Dana White who apparently thinks proper drug testing is "weird" because GSP is putting everyone on the spot and has even offered to pay for it out of his own pocket. Hendricks only has another two weeks to get this straightened out.

Quote:
The VADA drug testing agency reports that Hendricks has yet to file the paperwork to comply with pre-fight drug screenings.

Despite publicly accepting Georges St. Pierre's offer to participate in VADA and despite not having to pay for it himself, TVASports in Canada reports that Hendricks has yet to formally submit his paperwork to undergo VADA testing. With the fight a little over two months away, the window is closing for meaningful tests. VADA asks for an eight week window to test participants leading up to an event, so if he doesn't apply by September 22 he may be considered ineligible to participate.

Unfortunately, if Hendricks bails on the process altogether, this could put a real damper on MMA anti-doping efforts in general. Dana White's recent statements have made it pretty clear that he's not a real fan of the idea, and that he thinks that GSP is "a little weird" for wanting to go through it. I doubt that they would pull Hendricks from the fight if he eventually decided not to take part in the VADA testing process at all. It's a question that has to be considered as the sport looks to expand and attract more and better athletes: Is there any real desire, in house, for better testing?

Also mentioned in the TVA report, was the size of the bill that GSP has offered to foot. The price of a clean record comes in at around $20,000. Apparently that's the bill for GSP and Hendricks combined, maybe Georges will save a little money if he goes it alone. Either way it's a lot to pay, especially if the whole thing never really gets off the ground.

I might have to make some popcorn and go watch the shitstorm on Sherdog.

It's OK, Big Rig, I hate filling out forms too.

There are lots of things that are weird about GSP but proper drug testing is not one of them. There's only one reason for Hendricks not to go through with this.

I wonder if GSPs incentive for the VADA tests is to prove to the world hes clean, or to prove that Hendrix isnt.

Either way, kind of intriguing that Hendrix hasnt bothered. Colour me interested in this story.

It does seem pretty shady. Maybe Georges knows something we all don't?

I guess GSP believes he has access to better stuff that wont be found by VADA testing. I cannot believe that GSP who has physically dominated so many through his career has always been clean himself. Ask BJ Penn and Nick Diaz they both fought him and thought he physique is unnatural.

No one has RAW physically dominated guys his own size like GSP throughout modern MMA history. He does it without having any physical attributes like Jon Jones has (range advantage, sharp elbows or height/weight advantage).

GSP did 50 chin ups at age 16. Can someone grow that strong being that young without using extras ?

I agree, Hendricks was the one talking about Olympic type drug testing not that long ago and also accepted the VADA testing when asked to do so. Fast forward to today and GSP has offered to test and also pay for both of them out of his pocket. Hendricks needs to step up to the plate, I'm not going to say Hendricks is using with any kind of certainty but that he has not kept his word is a little shady. It's really good to see that GSP is holding everyone accountable.

No. 1 UFC welterweight contender Johny Hendricks has accepted Georges St-Pierre’s invitation to subscribe to Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) drug testing for their upcoming UFC 167 title fight.

Last week in Las Vegas prior to UFC 162, St-Pierre said he is willing to undergo random VADA drug tests in an attempt to clean up MMA, send a message to his fellow athletes, and prove that he is a clean athlete.

“I believe VADA testing I’m up for it and I invite my opponent to do the VADA testing for the championship fight,” St-Pierre told UFC Central host Showdown Joe Ferraro last week.

“I invite if possible all the high-profile athletes in the UFC to do the same. I believe it’s a good thing. It’s a bit of a pain in the butt sometimes but … I’m ready to do it to set a good example.”

Hendricks accepted St-Pierre’s VADA invitation without hesitation.

“Heck ya!” Hendricks told UFC Central Radio late Thursday on Sportsnet 590 The Fan.

“The worst thing that they’re going to find is a little bit of protein in my diet. If eating wild hogs and organic deer meat and a little bit of glutamine is bad for the ol’ system then I might fail,” Hendricks joked.

Neither Hendricks nor GSP have ever failed a pre- or post-fight drug test in their professional MMA careers, though GSP has been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs by several opponents in the past.

Hendricks also added that he would be open to any type of testing, including Olympic-style United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) screenings.

“It doesn’t matter. Today, tomorrow, three months from now, I’ll gladly take a test for anything,” Hendricks said.
