Trainer: Machida Should Get Title Shot With Win Over Munoz

Quote:
“I think if Lyoto wins he gets the title shot but also you have Jacare, he did a great job in his last fight. I think he deserves the opportunity to fight for the belt. It doesn’t matter who is the champion. In my opinion everybody wants the belt, everybody fights for the belt. It’s a dream for all fighters so all guys in the top five or top ten deserve the chance to fight for the belt. Jacare deserves it, Lyoto deserves it. Mark works so hard, he deserves all the best also. So if guys have to fight, let’s fight.”
Famed Brazilian trainer and Lyoto Machida cornerman, Rafael Cordeiro, believes that Lyoto should be granted a title shot if he defeats Mark Munoz later this month.
Machida steps in against Munoz after Michael Bisping was forced out of the fight due to injury. The two will face off at UFC Fight Night 30 on Oct. 26, 2013 from Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, England.

Unless Anderson gets the belt back then they'll hold off challenging. They say "whoever is the champion", but I see them bottling it if Anderson regains the gold.

Ya makes sense.

I say give Machida another big name if he takes out Munoz and if Anderson doesn't have his belt back fine.

I really wonder what is going to happen if Anderson gets that belt back. Lyoto and Jacare smell the gold and both want it, but both have said they won't fight Anderson and vice versa. I have a feeling we are in the midst of another Jones vs Rashad.

I don't think so. In general, Brazilians seem to be more serious about not fighting friends than Americans. I rather have the feeling that if Silva gets the belt back, he will put it down at some point and go for the "interesting" (non title) fights.

People would freak out anyways if two counter strikers like Silva and Machida were to fight each other. The UFC wouldn't want to have that happen. It would be worse than Silva vs Maia, as Machida knows how to not get hit when not engaging.

...Man- Machida vs. Jacare would be a memorable, incredible fight. Jacare in my opinion will be the next #1 contender. He has become such a brutal, complete fighter. We all know his groundgame rivals the very best like Maia or Shields and his hands have become pretty nasty since he's worked on his striking with none other than Anderson. Man- Joe Silva has to be licking his chops with the sick match-ups he can put together...

With statements like that coming from Machida's camp, it makes me wonder if Anderson would vacate the title after winning it back.
