Rousimar Palhares should be banned from MMA competition - wish granted

This guy has to be the dirtiest fighter in the UFC today. I did have him tied with Cheick "take your knee to the balls like a man" Kongo, but he's no longer on the UFC roster (thankfully).

Palhares has a history of holding onto submissions AFTER the referee intervenes, this isn't the first time he has done this, if you keep track of his fights, you'll see that he does it quite often with his submission victories, and quite frankly, I think it's disgusting.

Put the entertainment factor of his leg locks on hold, and view what this man is doing objectively, he could potentially end a fighters career with such foul antics.

This roided up gorilla needs to go.

I disagree.

I'm not a big fan of banning things based on the premise of, "If it'll save just one ______".

To me, justice (specifically in a case like this) means: you end a career, your career is ended.

But up to that point, escalating punishments - fines, time-outs, etc- are enough.

Fine him, suspend him, doubt it'll matter... The dude is too dumb to leave go of a hold regardless. Doubt he'll ever stop.

That being said, he shouldn't be cut.

So what matters to you is how many careers he is likely to end through his pathetic foul play. He might end one fighters career, but that's no big deal, it's just one guy. What if that one person was you? How would you feel about the other fighter getting a fine, a telling off by Dana and a little suspension, whilst your career is over and you can no longer compete in the sport you love. What if it was an Anderson Silva? or a GSP? Would you still want him around then?

Suspensions and fines clearly aren't enough to stop this juiced up freak from holding onto brutal submissions after the referees intervention because he's been "punished" and suspended before. He obviously doesn't care and hasn't a single ounce of consideration for his opponents health and well being.

You're entitled to your opinion.

People will be quick to ridicule a fighter like Paul Daley and demand a firing after his sucker punch cheap shot after the bell, but to me, what Palhares is doing is even worse, in fact, I'd argue much worse.

As I mentioned in my first post: yes.

I am okay with various administrative/monetary punishments, until/unless he ends a career; in which case, he'll have ended his own career.

There's something about him that is off putting and after reading that his mentor Murilo Bustamante instilled in him to essentially never let go until there's a clear victor...I can see why he does that. Sadly he has a sordid history of this.

With holding, suspending would be a good approach and instructing him that it can not happen again or face losing 50% or more of his paycheck + longer suspension and posssible ban.

Reality I don't see it in his face, where he's trying to really hurt that guy. As most people mentioned he's not very quick. He's simply not aware of what's going on...empty if you will.

Marcus Aurelius: Tell me again, Maximus, why are we here?
Maximus: For the glory of the Empire, sire.

Baked, not fried... the healthy choice.
