The reason i find your argument invalid is that what bad press are you talking about?? No one has went after the UFC with what Palhares did. If anything all im seeing is good press regarding the UFCs decision to cut Palhares. All the bad press has been directed strictly at Palhares.

Truth is the UFC is going to be seen as a violent sport whether there is evidence to back it up or not. It works out better for the UFC to show they are against putting their fighters in danger and bad sportsmanship then it is for them to never get a chance to prove they are. I know that seems a little backward but realistically its the truth. Most people who look at the UFC in a negative light probably couldnt even come up with a single incident like Palhareses. They will think negatively of the sport none the less. Now the UFC has shown that they are not about that and will not condone it.
There was no bad press that I know of in that regard, however this may be an argument in favor of those opposed legalizing UFC in the future for places where it's illegal. They could argue "look at the damage happened to Mike Pierce at the Palhares fight".

What damage? Didn't Pierce have a sprained ankle or something? I would understand if it was major but a sprained ankle is nothing.

It's not the magnitude of the injury, it's the fact that the way Palhares holds on to submissions is just waiting for something bad to happen. Also consider if it was a choke submission for example there would be no damage to discuss. He has to go to doctors to verify everything is ok, just because Palhares holds on to submissions after ref tells him to stop.
