Well. Jones opponents in championship fights.
- Vitor and Sonnen were former middleweights.
- Machida avoided dropping to middleweight for years because his friend is Anderson Silva. He just beat Munoz at middleweight.
- Rashad Evans not known for great standup, Jones did not finish him despite 5 rounds standup.
- Mauricia Rua. Jones took him down and crippled him. He proofed that he can strike a punching bag in this fight. Rua past his prime as well.
- Rampage Jackson, past his prime.
- Alexander Gustafsson. First guy that matched Jones physique and in prime. Jones lost on many of the pro MMA fighters cards.

Stefan Struve has a very low fight IQ.. Just because you are long doesn't mean you are going to be good, you need to know how to use that length. Bones has a high fight IQ, is a great wrestler and a pretty good kickboxer but his boxing is horrible. *We are talking about MMA boxing here, I don't care what he can do in a ring with no kicks but his MMA boxing and punch defense are both rudimentary.

If you put Bones and Barao, Aldo, Frankie, Anderson, GSP + many more in the same body but keep all their skills then you'll find that Bones would not win against many (if any) of them.

Bones is dangerous because of leg reach + arm reach + leverage + threat of the takedown.

He did not outwrestle Gus and he did not outstrike Gus.

Size doesn't matter if you don't know how to properly use it. Jones knows how to use his reach to his advantage. That advantage was neutralized against Gustafson. I think in the rematch Jones will do a lot better since there's a lot of room for improvement on his end (I'm not a jones fan, just looking at it objectively).

As far as DC goes, I have to say I'm really impressed overall by DC. Not just does he have an incredible record, he's just a really good overall fighter with exceptional wrestling. His striking may not be as good as a pure striker, but as many people of have said before, it's not that important in mma. What is important is the fact that when facing a pure striker, they'll be so worried about the takedown, it'll reduce their striking skills. From what I've seen from DC's fights, he's so good at getting his opponent down, it opens up a whole world of options as far as take downs and striking goes.

In short, I don't think his striking is overrated at all. I think he's using his striking to their fullest potential at his current skill level and it's working out great for him!

He's only going to get better in the next couple of years.

Not to be dimissed either is he is what? 5'11? He has been having to strike against HWs very early in his career. Mir, Barnett, Bigfoot are all fairly large HWs, all 6'3 - 6'4.

He has held his own, if not owned his opponents in the striking department, yet he is much shorter than most all, with less range.

There is nothing overrated about him. He is one, if not the best wrestlers in the UFC. He is developing all-around skills. He has a solid to good gas tank for a HW. He has a calm and patient demeanor which all top fighters seem to have. All this while being fairly new to the game.

This thread is dead.

He is a ridiculous athlete so the HWs he was fighting just simply couldn't handle his quickness and speed. Thus his striking leaves a general impression as being better than it actually is. Bones is the same though his reach allows him to get away with a lot more than his skills alone would. Physically they both possess pretty extreme features for the weight classes they have been competing. DC's striking won't look as good against the faster guys at LHW just as Bones doesn't look as good against someone like Gus.

He really did, punch numbers don't matter... Jones beat Gustafsson with standing elbows, he did much more damage and was the only guy in there ever close to stopping the fight and the damage he did is why he one on points.
