Hector Lombard calls out Carlos Condit

Hector Lombard calls out Carlos Condit, would settle for Martin Kampmann

Not long after getting called out by Matt Brown, Carlos Condit finds himself answering the call of another hard-hitting welterweight.

Don't be surprised to see Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweights dropping down to 155 pounds in record numbers.

That's because former middleweight monster, Hector Lombard, has been able to cut weight successfully (wasn't easy) and still retain his knockout power.

Just ask Nate Marquardt.

"Lightning" demolished "The Great" as part of the UFC 166 event earlier this month in Houston, Texas (details). While he's not fully abandoned his post at 185 pounds, the former Bellator champion still has some work to do at welterweight, starting with the division's former interim kingpin:

From BJPenn.com:

Quote:
"I think that Carlos Condit is high ranked, right? Okay, I'll take Carlos Condit. My style of fighting has nothing to do with judo. I love judo, and I'm always going to love judo, and I'm always gonna be calling myself a judo player. I trained that sport for seven years. I went everywhere in judo and I competed at the highest level. But, I don't use judo at all. I knock people out. I like to be exciting. That was my goal a long time ago, I want to be exciting, and I want the people to want to watch me fight. Unfortunately judo is not as exciting as MMA. So I tried to develop a style where [people] would come see me fight. So I started training stand-up, and I got myself an instructor. That's how I like to fight, I don't like to grapple. I like to stand up. If somebody has to get KOed, somebody has to go out."
Lombard says he would also accept a fight against top-10 welterweight Martin Kampmann.

Condit returned to the win column back in August by planishing "The Hitman" on FOX Sports 1. "The Natural Born Killer" is currently scheduled to throw down against Matt Brown as part of the UFC on FOX 9 main card later this year in Sacramento, California.

After that? Too soon to tell, but it sounds like he already has a target on his back.

Lombard vs. Condit ... who wins?

Again, not sure why people call out guys who have fights???

If Condit goes out and destroys Brown, he is RIGHT THERE for another shot, among the top 3 or 4 WWs in the world. Lombard doesn't deserve him exactly.

I'd like to see Lombard vs. a grappler to be honest. If he is serious about a title run, then he has to prove to beat some grapplers.

Shields, Maia, Stun Gun. I'd love to see him vs. some hard hitters for sure, but not many that are available. Condit doesn't fight until mid December for focks sakes.

The only quote that should ever come out of these guys should be: "I don't care. I'll fight whoever."

Choosing your opponent goes against the warrior essence. When have you ever heard a Klingon say "I dont fancy that... can I fight somebody else?".

For example, Condit. I simply cant imagine him saying something as poncey as "I would like to fight [blah]... I feel my style matches up well with him."... total pansy talk.

warrior spirit, lol.

not like he saying no to a fight and asking for something else. or not like he is calling out and easy opponent.

I like when guys call out fighters they'd like to fight. I just don't get it when they call out a guy who is scheduled to fight almost 2 months from now.

I like Shields/Lonbard but really just for fun I badly want Robbie Lawler vs Hector Lombard. He looked great as a WW and finally looked like lightning.

Well, yes. Calling out a top ranked fighter that you know 100% is unavailable to you, is a big old frilly blouse behaviour.

Having said all that, I dont like Lombard. His style annoys me. Nothing I hate more then stiff fighters, and this guy looks like a stiff plank when he fights. They should match him up with the other super stiff at ww: Koscheck. But hes not available either.

I don't agree with the ethics of Lombard/Shields or Maia/Lombard. These guys dropped down in weight for a reason, pairing them off together would just give us the same fight at middleweight with guys that are in worse condition.

As for Carlos Condit being "in it" with a win over Matt Brown Everyone's targeting Condit now because a win over him is a big deal and he needs THREE big wins to get another shot.

Rather see Lombard/Ellenberger but I would enjoy seeing Martin Kampmann getting KTFO.

Judging from other interviews/Lombards twitter, I don't think Lombard cares who he fights next, he just wants a quick turnaround. I bet when he mentioned Condit, he didn't even know that Condit is fighting in December.

So many exciting fights for Lombard in the best division in the UFC, in my opinion.

I don't think calling out unavailable fighters is that big a deal, considering that injury related drop outs are relatively commonplace I see no reason why someone who came out of their last fight comparatively unscathed would hesitate to call out any and all big names in any currently scheduled fight.
