Someone I respect said he had it for Lentz since Mendes did nothing when on top and Lentz worked.

Eitehr way, Mendes didn't do enough to get that title shot. Should Aldo beat Lamas, give it to Cub. Let Mendes take another fight.

I get annoyed with Lentz's constant guillotine choke attempts when he is taken down. Not at the fact that he's attempting a sub, that's great, but the fact that the way he has it, you know he's not going to get anywhere with it. It looks like he does it just to hold position and to avoid any punishment. It doesn't look like a sub attempt, it looks like a neutralizing attempt. When I was a teenager and had a crappy guard, in grappling matches I would do the same exact thing to avoid getting pummeled. Hold a guillotine that I knew wasn't effective due to the position until my opponent got bored. In that situation, I'm still scoring it for the guy on top. He's not in any trouble, the guy on the bottom is just holding on.

I'm not saying that's all that Lentz did, I could actually be way off base considering I watched the fight off and on while doing other stuff, but the parts I did watch, it reminded me of Lentz vs. Bocek. Every time Bocek took him down, he'd just hold onto a guillotine for dear life that wasn't even close to being effective. It just looks ameteurish to me and it makes me think he does that because he doesn't know what else to do. Like I said, I could be way off base, but I just hate when he does that. Specifically against Bocek, if not this fight. He lost that fight and never really went to plan b on the ground. He just avoided punishment with his "go to move" when being taken down. That cost him any chance of winning, and the thing is, it doesn't even look like he's trying to sink the choke in. He's just holding the position.

I wouldn't mind someone shedding some light on me in this fight. I hope he improved his guard somewhat like Jonny's friend implied.

Not so much improved his guard, but he was working from bottom is what I heard. I too missed some of this fight. Guy could be totally off or bias from a bet. But he usually calls it how it is. Was Mendes really getting TDs and doing nothing with them? Can some one verify?

If so he shouldn't get a shot. You need a showcase fight before you get that ALdo rematch. KOing Cody McKenzie isn't anything. Mendes is real good, but I expected a statement. But then again I heard he was ill so I guess I don't know.

It's a tough call... he didn't have a dominating performance, but he did what he needed to do to get the W with his situation.

How many more #10 or lower fighters are they going to make this guy fight?

He's just wasting his career, smashing guys out of his league.

Did he really smash Lentz?

If he hadn't already lost to Aldo then sure, title shot now. But since he already lost then I don't see any hurry. If they were to give it to him they should have last fight. Not a great sell after wrestle-focking the 10the ranked FW in your backyard. But then again there isn't a whole lot past Cub. But I'd give it to Cub.

Well he did in the first 2 minutes... almost finished the fight. But then blew his load because of his sinus infection... "sniffles"... and basically road it to a decision from there.

Chad has never been a guy with bad cardio, so for him to take a win like this over Lentz makes me honestly believe what he's saying.

If you're going to give him one more fight, make it against someone who counts. Make it a real title eliminator fight.

I think the UFC is scared to put Lamas, Edgar, Swanson, and Mendez together because they feel like they've got a good talent pool and they don't want to burst anyone's bubble.

So it seems like they are just going to feed the bottom half to these guys and just give them their title shots, one by one.

Agreed. With a shallow talent pool at 145 it is hard to make true contender fights. I'm all for "stay busy" fights, more than most. Why not just keep Mendes sharp and throw him on one of the first fights of a free main card, against a guy he should smash. I see nothing wrong with those fights. Mendes can come back in 3 months.
