Guys, slow down. I know your excited for this fight but some of you are so excited your posts are incoherent!

Stapler 12-10-2013 01:48 PM

^ hahaha. That's great.

No disrespect to these guys, but I just can't get excited for this rematch, and it's not due to a lack of interest about the flyweight division. Dodson is one of my favorite fighters and he fights at 125.

It's odd to see a title fight so dismissed on this forum. There has to be someone excited for this.

I'm pretty excited for this fight, something about DJ just doesn't get me as excited as other divisions. Hope Benavidez wins.

personally, I really couldn't care less who wins.

if it's a good fight, then it's just a bonus.

I just don't think enough time has passed it will be a good fight just like the first one but the problem is it will be just like the first one with MM being too fast.

Stapler 12-10-2013 06:52 PM

Problem with this is, let's say hypothetically DJ wins and then fights Dodson again and wins that fight as well. What happens to Dodson and Benavidez? They are both top 5 guys at 125 and the division is sort of thin at the moment. They can't keep knocking off other potential contenders. Making rematches this soon can create this problem in divisions that don't have a lot of established guys.

I could be not giving the division enough credit, but hopefully Dodson takes that strap from DJ when they cross paths again and it won't be a problem. :D

I definitely agree this is too soon. I just don't really see why the outcome should be any different. Reminds me of Cain vs. Bigfoot. Still, anything can happen. Whenever someone says a fight is a lock I just think of Serra vs. GSP one.

edit: wow just looked up the fight and I didn't realize it had been a year already. That's enough time for one to pull out ahead.

I love watching the lighter guys go at it, but nothing has happened in their fights since their first meeting to make me think the rematch will go down any differently.

Joe B is still wrecking fools, but I just don't think his striking matches up well with MM's style unless he catches him with something.

Heh, i find these flyweights to damn fast a times tbh, my eyes are to slow to follow it all. I only really appreciate what is going on in the replays... if even then. Just read an article from Jack Slack, he says Johnson has "More actions per minute than a Korean Starcraft player." Sounds about right.
