He then beat Mir (impressively), and won one of the most embarrassing fights I've ever seen against Carwin. This was the totality of everything he accomplished in the UFC folks. The last two fights he got hit and quit.

Had he not come from the WWE he would have never been a champ.
Had he not come from the WWE he would have likely been a medalist in the Olympics and he would have had a longer and better career in MMA. If he didn't come from the WWE, Pride would have brought him in and used him as the Vanilla Bob Sapp.

People rag on Brock, but he did unbelievably well all things considered. He would have been in pro football had he not sustained an injury, plus probably would have been wrestling in the Olympics.

Most fighters start at an early age and know how to roll with the punches, Brock simply didn`t like getting hit. He had incredible speed and athleticism, great wrestling and powerful GnP.

Were there better HWs... Yes, but all were elite, top tier guys. Brock gave us some really entertaining fights. Had diverticulitis not taken him out for that extended period of time, We would have been treated to:

R.I.P. PRIDE FC

Fedor-Shogun-Overeem-Cro Cop-Silva-Gomi-Henderson-Jackson

2014 NPFFL

Jon Jones . Travis Browne . Demian Maia. Cain Velasquez. Fabricio Werdum

I think Lesnar could take a helluva punch I just think he didnt like it. If he would have been trained longer and done years of stand up I doubt it would have been an issue.

With your first sentence I agree. Lesnar actually could take a punch, but reacted poorly.

With your second sentence I kind of disagree. I've seen many people train and fight and of course they would be able to adapt and get a little better when taking a punch, but usually you would know after a short while of training whether they really could deal with the pressure and pain or rather not. I don't know whether it's genetics or early childhood experience, but how you instinctively react to getting beat up seems to be determined before the age you usually start to train.

Ive seen many guys in my time start out pretty timid and react really bad to getting hit turn a corner... so totally possible for Brock, or anyone really. The fighter has to push them self through and do a lot of sparring though, Brock needed to get beat up in sparring to be able to ever take it in a real fight. I don't think Brock was prepared to go through that.

Yes we all heard from Frank Mir what it takes to take a punch and the man who got KTFO by Brandon Vera would know. I think he was fine getting hit just not after they removed a portion of his internal organs.

This thread is very pointless and for almost every division, the number one guy will be whoever the current champion is or the last guy he beat. It is pointless to rank previous champions or contenders due to the ever evolving nature of this sport.

^And yet several guys got ranked by other people? Anderson is ahead of Weidman on an all time scale. BJ Penn would probably be ahead of Anthony Pettis too.

And yeah the two guys who mentioned it were probably right. It wasn't that Lesnar was getting KOedm he survived the slaughter from Carwin after all. It's that he cowered when he got hit and went in a shell. He didn't like it and couldn't react.

Thanks to Ape for the sig.
