About face! Anderson Silva wants to take one month off following UFC 168, then help Chael Sonnen coach on TUF: 'Brazil 3'

By C.J. Tuttle  @kidceej on Dec 19 2013, 10:00a 24

Anderson Silva is focused on rectifying his loss to Chris Weidman at UFC 162 by beating the current champion at UFC 168. Following the main event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 28, 2013, Silva intends to honor a special invitation from an old foe.

Anderson Silva is down to team up with a guy he's had a bitter rivalry with.

On Wednesday's episode of UFC Tonight, "The Spider" backed off a statement he made earlier this week about declining Chael Sonnen's offer of being an assistant coach on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Brazil.

Silva's manager, Jorge Guimaraes, said the longest reigning middleweight champion in UFC history will likely take a month off following his rematch against Chris Weidman at UFC 168, set to go down Dec. 28, 2013 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After the much deserved downtime, Silva would join "The American Gangster" in coaching a team of entirely Brazilian fighters in a competition against Wanderlei Silva. Guimares went on to add that Silva thinks it would be really entertaining and thinks he’ll end up doing it.

What will make this potential Team Sonnen tandem interesting is how the aspiring mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters treat their coaches.

After the amount of things Sonnen has previously said about "The Axe Murderer," Brazil and Silva, his former foe, an angle to watch out for throughout the season will be whether the cast revolts against the head coach and instead looks to the assistant for guidance.

Also worth looking out for is how much danger Sonnen is in while taping in Brazil and where his teammates loyalty would reside.

As if the build-up for Silva vs. Sonnen wasn't enough to watch the show, if "The Spider" does end up a member of Team Sonnen, the season just got must-see.

Actually that makes more sense right now. They will do it that way so the Sonnen fighters wouldn't take all the heat from the audience as they were not even Brazilians.

Another good aspect on having Anderson on Sonnen's team is extremist fans will feel less motivated to make the self proclaimed gangster to swallow all his past words the hard way. Yes, beside balancing the cheering crowd, security is playing a factor on this move and I am more than sure Wand is aware of everything.

As you mentioned it will be awesome for the fans, the fighters (on their team) and fighters alike. It will make the sport more professional seeing how when they were competing they were at each others throat but once the fight is over, they can work together.

I'll love to see them both training and coaching together.

Crazy thing is that Sonnen probably already asked Silva and he said yes, before they even started tweeting about it. lol
