Poirier to Brandao "I'm going to f****** break you and you know it!"

I guess Poirier wasn't too happy with Brandao missing weight.

I think this fight is getting over looked due to the stacked card.

Quote:

There was only one fighter at today's UFC 168 weigh-ins who missed weight and he was so far off that he was just about a full weight class over the limit. Featherweight Diego Brandao was scheduled to fight Dustin Poirier in the opening bout of the UFC 168 PPV main card, but the Brazilian tipped the scales at a shocking 153 lbs (while Poirier came in at 146). Poirier was none too pleased with Brandao and yelled at him during the stare-down (as you can see in the photo above) before they went off the stage.

Believe it or not, Brandao actually tried to shave off a couple of pounds in the allotted hour and plummeted to 151.5. Brandao was fined 25% of his purse, of which half goes to Poirier while the other half is handed over to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The fight is still on for tomorrow, and presumably Brandao is ineligible to win any post-fight bonuses (Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night, Submission of the Night).

This is the first instance of Brandao failing to make weight, but did he ever make it a memorable one. I wouldn't have faulted Poirier one bit for refusing to take the fight with such a large discrepancy. MMA Junkie's John Morgan tweeted out what Poirier reportedly said during the weigh-in pose:

"Just spoke with a UFC official who said @DustinPoirier's heated outburst included, "I'm going to f---ing break you, and you know it!"

We should be in for one heated PPV opener tomorrow night in Las Vegas.

I can't copy and paste the article from my phone. It's a good quick read.

When I watched the weigh-ins I was like "Man, Brandao must be confident in his skills to weigh in 2 lbs below the weight limit" ...then I realised the fight wasn't at 155 but at 145

Edit: except his cardio. That's made me sad in his last two fights

Poirier is the big favourite in this fight, what you're saying should be common knowledge.

http://www.mmaforum.com/ufc-vbookie-...o-brandao.html

Poirier has headlined his own event and has fought good competition, this will be Brandao first "top" test.

The only UFC opponent they have in common is Pablo Garza which Poirier subbed in the second - Brandao subbed him in the first. This is a close fight, closer than the betting line suggests in my opinion.

Heh, where was the fire Diego? He normally has something to say back, looked mentally broken... maybe that's why he didn't bother trying to cut all the weight. Im changing my pick to the lighter man.

This could be a serious barn burner in the first minute. First round knockout for diego! If he doesnt put him away in the first minute or two poirier probably takes it

I don't see Brandao winning this fight at all. I would actually be very surprised if Poirier lost this.
