In this situation, I think either of those guys with a W over Condit deserves the shot. I would also say the same for Condit. A win over either of Ellenberger or MacDonald would be enough for him to get a shot at Lawler/Hendricks.

The fights that are setup don't really do anything to hammer out a clean number 1.
I agree, however what it does do is present options. If anyone in that group has a standout performance then you could have a contender emerge. Also allows them to cherry pick the fighter they prefer for the title shot instead of hoping for a certain outcome of a certain fight.

Guys guys guys, lets not forget Matt Brown! He's overlooked but the fact is he is in this title picture (though I know he needs a top 5 win to make it all the way). I don't think he's too long away from being back to full time training, is he?

Damn, I'd love to see him fight R-Mac.
If one swarm from Lawler was enough to put him on his arse, and I'm pretty sure Maia made him stumble in an exchange in RD.1 , I see no reason why Brown couldn't swarm and finish him.

Rory may surpass him in pure skill, but in term of finishing instinct? Brown towers over Rory

I didn't. He just isn't booked for a fight so he isn't listed in the OP. But I mentioned in my post that IMO he is a good person for Rory to fight next. I think Rory, Brown and the winner of Hathaway-Kim will be on a similar level in the title picture.

He's honestly the only top 10 WW available for Rory to fight at this point... Anyone know an ETA on Brown?

Spring/early summer was all I could find on his Twitter.
A Aug' / Sept' fight between R-Mac and Brown sounds pretty good to me, but if Rory is really set on getting a title shot then he'll wanna fight before then, I imagine.

I think outside of Condit for barnburner reasons, Rory is who I wanna see Brown fight next.
Dammit, gunna watch Matt's 6 fight win streak to get me pumped now

Well Kim vs Hathaway is this weekend. So if one of them comes out of it healthy then they would also be available. Also the winner should move up a couple spots in the rankings. Especially when the other fights shake out and the losers drop.

Not a lot to gain in that for Rory... however I guess that could be said about all these fights currently lined up.

Most of these is a top 5 vs a bottom 15... great opportunity to bring in some new challengers I suppose.

If Hathaway wins he will be 8-1 in the UFC and on a 4 fight win streak. Like you mentioned other guys are currently tied up, Rory might prefer to wait for a better "name". Not sure if he would prefer Hathaway over rematches with guys he already fought like Condit and Ellenberger.
Kim would also be on a 4 fight win streak if he wins.

EDIT: I keep calling referring Rory as Condit and it's throwing me off lol, halfway through my mind switched from Rory to Condit. This post made more sense when it was about Condit

Hard to say.

Condit beating Kampmann and Woodley (if he beats Woodley) doesn't really warrant him a shot at the title.
Rory doesn't deserve a title shot after beating Maia in which he was tossed around like a misbehaving Catholic child in a room full of Bishops for a round.

What I would like to see personally is the winner of Shields/Lombard fight the winner of MacDonald/Kim (should he beat Hathaway) for a title shot.
Condit can fight Matt Brown when he returns or the winner of Saffiedine/Ellenberger for the next shot after that.

And Diaz can stay retired.

For me I have it as Condit/Hendricks/Lawler for who will be your champ. Those three are next level with a lot of guys really close. I expect to see some combination of the three above quite a bit over the next couple of years, either for the title or for a title shot.

Right now though the worst thing you can do is lose in your shot at the title. With the WW division so stacked it could be real easy to find yourself waiting over a year for another chance.
