Condit Tears ACL

Looks like he will be out for a while

By Brett Okamoto | ESPN.com

UFC welterweight Carlos Condit was diagnosed with a torn ACL and partially torn meniscus in his right knee, following an MRI on Wednesday. The 30-year-old will require surgery.

Condit (29-8) suffered the injuries in a second-round TKO loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC 171 last weekend in Dallas.

It appeared he initially suffered an injury while trying to defend a takedown. He was later unable to continue, after a leg kick by Woodley spun him around awkwardly on the right leg.

Condit's manager, Malki Kawa, confirmed the injuries to ESPN.com. An official date for the operation has not been scheduled.

A former No. 1 welterweight contender, Condit is 1-3 in his past four fights. He came up short in a title bid against Georges St. Pierre at UFC 154 in November 2012. He fights out of Albuquerque, N.M.

Shows how tough he is continuing to fight after that takedown and then after the fight to be standing and walking around with a torn ACL... Most people would be rolling on the ground screaming...

Damn, that sucks. Best to him on the road of recovery. One of my favorite fighters ever...too bad he will probably never get a WW title shot again (or would have to go on a good winning streak upon coming back).

Seems odd that having a jacked knee he would choose to eat a leg kick and spin on his hurt knee.

Anyway that sucks. Carlos is always fun to watch and for him to be out a year that just sucks.

Yeah, he should have pulled some matrix shit and dodged that kick with an already bum knee...

Who exactly chooses to eat a leg kick?

Or he could have not spun around and done a pirouette on his bum knee. He could have just done a you know standard kick check. Or just eaten it, I'm pretty sure if I have a choice between take a leg kick and spinning around on a ****ed up knee, I'll just eat the kick.

It's easy to just type that in hindsight but it's different when you have to actually make a split second decision while also worrying about the excruciating pain you're in. Not to mention he got kicked by a guy who has the legs of a superhero.

Will make predictions for credits. Please, I'm so broke.

Maybe he felt that the kick would rotate his body anyways, so he didn't want to have weight on the bummed knee and have torque on the joint, but instead wanted the momentum on his whole body so the knee would stay stable.

I wonder if Woodley realized Condit hurt his knee/leg somehow and that's why he threw the kick in the first place.
