Gus - "Jones is avoiding me"

http://www.mmamania.com/2014/3/26/55...g-avoid-me-mma

Quote:
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones is trying to avoid a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson.

That's according to "The Mauler," who wasn't as perplexed as everyone else when "Bones" suggested the towering Swede be paired off against fellow 205-pound contender Daniel Cormier, who was victorious in his light heavyweight debut just last month.

After all, a fight against "DC," Gustafsson tells BE Sport (via MMA Fighting), means no fight against Jones.

Quote:
"If I look at Jones' perspective I don't think that's strange, because he tries to avoid me. Everyone can see that. I can see that. He does what it takes to not fight me. For myself, it doesn't make any sense. I think DC is a great fighter. I respect him and I think he's a top contender, but I think he has to have another fight or two before he will fight for the title. The only thing that makes sense, in my mind, is me versus Jones next. I want him to beat Glover Teixeira, because I want to take the belt from Jon Jones."
Some actual talk out of the usually reserved Gus, I like it.

Jones either doesnt recognize how close the fight with gus was or is avoiding gus. That fight was deserving of a rematch without gus needing to fight again. Manuwa may not have been a huge name win but i think gus should get his rematch and dc should get another contender before he gets his shot.

Funny side now, Gustaffson's wiki page currently says his method of loss to jon jones was "bullshit" haha.

Everyone, including Jones, is entitled to voice their opinion but IMO he's getting just a lil' too comfty from his throne - I usually don't mind him 'cos I believe his talent balances out his 'confidence' (/arrogance) but him scoffing at fans calling for a Hendo title shot, twitting stuff like "gimme a break" (something along those lines) definitely does not help his image.

That said, agree with Gus. Not that Jones is 'scared' of the Mauler or anything, I just think it's normal for the champ to opt for 'easier' fights.

What makes you say that? He said he'd fight Glover and then go back to Gus. Sorry if Jones isn't like, "Oh my, Gus beat the almighty Manuwa on FIght Pass, give him a shot now!". Jones wants to keep cleaning out the entire division and adding names to his resume, I would do the same thing.

Gus knows Bones isn't afraid of him....he's just trying to do everything he can to make sure he is the clear cut #1 contender and/or build interest to a potential rematch. I hope he keeps quiet though so Bones can focus on Glover, as I'm worried about that fight.

He whined about Tex being undeserving as well. He basically said *all* the top LHW contenders we're undeserving of his presence. He didn't name a single opponent he would like... just moaned about the dudes he doesn't want to fight. What kind of talk is this from a champion?

So, to go back to your quote. He didn't say shit. The UFC *made* him fight Tex.

Actually I believe he said at one point to do the Hendo fight, but that never happened. I think the reason he said he wanted that fight was cause he prepared for him. The whole Glover thing is the same beef Jon has had. Why is it that the top 5-6 LHW don't seem to fight each other. They beat cans then move on to the outter to inner top 10 then they all wait to get a shot. All Jon said was that Gus and DC should fight for the #1 spot. He didnt think that DC was deserving and by the way apparently neither does GUS. But instead of Manuwa, they could have giving Gus DC. That was his point. I guess haters gon hate.

A whole lot of this.

He's more vocal about who doesn't deserve to be in the cage with him, for what ever delusional reason, then he is about wanting to fight the divisions offerings.

I like MMA less because of this forum

I just think Jones doesn't understand the concept of how people get title shots. Fighters don't fight enough for there to be real "title eliminator" true #1 contender fights. He always says Fighter A, B, C, etc aren't really deserving of shots, but he has still defended it against every person the UFC has wanted him to.

DC already had a fight lined up... And why don't you look at it from the angle that the UFC gave Manuwa top competition to see if he could hang and become a contender? The man was undefeated and ranked #10.

Not just that but but Gus was suppose to fight Mousasi but had to pull out of the fight. DC was scheduled to fight Rashad and injuries prevented that as well. Just unlucky.
