And people say boxing is dying.

Rousey and Jones the two biggest draws the sport has right now, are barely drawing over 1/4 of what Mayweather draws. The UFC needs to do a better job with its stars.

So one guy in the whole sport of boxing. Who else draws? That's why people say it's dying. Floyd is what 37 now?

Those numbers seem low to me considering IMO it was one of the most entertaining shows this year. All the fights were great.

And some people act like Diaz isn't much of a draw. He could probably draw that without a title.

I figured this would happen. More shows = a down turn in views per show. UFC has no real stars at the moment. Ronda perhaps.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Oscar De La Hoya, Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield II, and Mike Tyson vs. Lennox Lewis are the only 3 boxing fights have sold more pay perviews than UFC 100 according to http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...ll-time/page/2

The most recent of those being Mayweather vs De La Hoya in 2007. Pay per views across the board have been on a bit of a down trend. But I believe and would wager that if you put on a UFC card headlined by any 2 guys making their UFC debut that no one has ever heard of and it went head to head with a boxing card with boxers that aren't Mayweather, Pacquiao status, the UFC would sell more. Mayweather is a brand unto himself. Once he retires, that goes away. He can't sell payperviews if he's not fighting. But here, more like WWE, the UFC is the brand and what you pay to see. Some times the fighters are irrelevant. Its the company that you pay for. That's why the UFC continues to thrive without its old guard of stars like Chuck, Tito, Randy, or even the huge successful star of Brock Lesnar. If the top 10 boxers were to retire tomorrow, itd be years for any boxing match broke 500k buys, I believe. Not so with the UFC. If all UFC champs were to retire tomorrow, theyd build a marketing machine to push the next contenders and assure that they picked entertaining gus to label as contenders.

The UFC and WWE brands are head and shoulders above any would be competitors in their markets. But the WBO, WBA, Ring Magazine, etc companies that designate championship, those entities as companies, aside from the most historic ones, mean very little.

Then why is it not working?

The only fight that is gonna be doing a big number in the near future is Weidman vs Machida. Dillashaw and Baugatinov haven't been built up at all and Aldo isnt a draw.

Its not working because of the ever increasing use of streams and so on. How many million people are streaming or downloading the next day?

I think the UFC should move their PPV system online for the main fight card too. Sell it for much cheaper, stream if yourself, cut out the cable provider. Have a commercial streaming fee as well. They need to move with technology and move with the times.
If people can stream it well and buy a season ticket for a discount, and this was offered around the world their numbers would increase I would think. Maybe they are testing this with the fight pass now, but its a hugely flawed test only offering fight nights and prelims. The sport isn't big enough yet to just offer the lesser fights/cards and get a realistic perspective.

It isn't working because people are tired of paying $55 or whatever it is per event.

Now people just watch the free events or if they really want to see a PPV go to a bar or something to do so. Everyone is only going to pay out the big bucks for those amazing events when they come along.

UFC 172 was not a great card to sell PPV's. It ended up being a great event but this it what the average person would think when looking at the fights.

Bones vs Teixeira - Bones is good but should win easily
Johnson vs Davis - Isn't he that ww guy and Davis is boring
Rockhold vs Boetsch - Sounds familiar but can't remember who Rockhold is, Boetsch is ok
Miller vs Medeiros - Miller is tough but who the hell is Medeiros
Holloway vs Fili - Who are these guys

The problem is that this card was just not up to top end PPV quality. To bring in the big numbers you need to have either a stacked card or one must see fight and Jones vs Tex isn't that quality of fight.

Yes because the 200,000 something buys Diaz got against BI Penn would be a great deal to the UFC right now.
