Ex-UFC fighter DENIS KANG opens MMA academy in Seoul, South Korea

Quote:
International MMA star Denis Kang has recently opened up his own gym in Seoul, South Korea. Located in the Samsung-dong area, fitness, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and MMA will be the focus.

The popularity of MMA is on the rise, and the latest star to add his sparkle to the landscape of Seoul is Denis Kang. The original Super Korean joins fellow MMA stars “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung and Kim Dong-Hyun to embark on the gym venture.

Kang was born outside of Korea but made his MMA fame begin there by becoming the Spirit MC Heavyweight Champion. This garnered the attention from mammoth PRIDE, and Kang saw much success there as well, eventually becoming the 2006 PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix Runner-Up. He has competed in the UFC following PRIDE, and made a full-circle career return to Korea to fight in ROAD FC.

The Denis Kang Academy features a large open mat that serves a grappling area, and a striking room with various bags for a multitude of approaches. CrossFit, strength, and cardio equipment round out the training options available. The gym will have programs teaching Brazilian jiu jitsu (with and without go), boxing, kickboxing, MMA, wrestling, and conditioning. All classes are currently being taught by Kang himself.

For more information, check out the website (Korean) and the Facebook page (English).

I think this will be great for MMA in Korea, Kang was never the greatest fighter, but he was good and has a lot to offer imo. Thoughts?

It will definitely help the current fighters and up and comers in South Korea. Kang was on a role at one point and has enough knowledge and experience to build a proper team up in my opinion. Wish him the best.

Agreed.

And i always felt Kang was way better than his UFC days suggested. He had his best days before his time with Zuffa.

All the best to the guy.

Did I read that right. KZ, SG are all part of the team. That's gonna be a powerhouse. Strange how Japan has been on the forefront of this sport yet all the other Eastern countries are still catching on. Guess the same with America. Took decades to have it sanctioned in most of the states.

I've always wondered how is that traditional martial arts was created in the far east yet there are no current champions of Asian descent.

DK at one point had an incredible win streak. Should have beat Belcher and Bisping.

Left himself wide open for the choke in the Belcher fight, a fight he was winning. Mentally I don't think he was on form for the rest of his time in the UFC which is a shame.

Kang is talented. He could've faired a lot better than he did in the UFC. His run was disappointing I really think it was a streak of bad luck and he could've really been a factor..

Good for him, I hope he prospers with this.
