Takanori Gomi vs. Myles Jury added to UFC Fight Night 52 in Japan

Quote:
Gomi (35-9 MMA, 4-4 UFC) meets Myles Jury (14-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC).

FOXSports.com first announced the contest, to which both fighters have verbally agreed, and MMAjunkie.com subsequently confirmed the planned pairing with sources close to the event.

Gomi was already expected to compete at the event, but his opponent had not yet been secured. UFC Fight Night 52 takes place Sept. 20 at Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan. Heavyweights Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson square off in the main event.

A 16-year veteran of the sport, Gomi has long been considered an MMA superstar in his native Japan. He finally made his way to the UFC in 2010 but struggled to just a 1-3 start in the octagon. He’s turned that around since, going 3-1 in his past four fights and picking up a pair of “Fight of the Night” bonuses along the way.

Jury was a member of a strong cast on “The Ultimate Fighter 15″ but was bounced out in the round of 16 after winning his elimination fight to get into the house. However, he’s done wonders since, already registering an impressive five victories in the octagon, including a March win over perennial contender Diego Sanchez.

With the addition to the card, UFC Fight Night 52 now features:
Mark Hunt vs. Roy Nelson
Rin Nakai vs. Miesha Tate
Chris Cariaso vs. Kyoji Horiguchi
Takanori Gomi vs. Myles Jury
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. opponent TBA
Norifumi Yamamoto vs. opponent TBA

This will be a great fight, a tough fight for Gomi but I think if he comes in shape for once he could still get the win.

100% rooting for gomi, but think jury will prevail without too much trouble.

You'd think they'd give Gomi a more winnable match up in Japan. It's not like anyone was clamoring to see this fight either. Jury should take it but hope Gomi proves me wrong.

I would be pretty happy if Gomi walked away with the win. Jury should be a significantly big favorite though.

Hopefully it being in Japan will give a Gomi a little bit of a boost. It can't hurt anyway.
