I'm just gonna skip the mundane weather talk and go straight to the ALS talk. Here I've been, complaining about the rain, when I could have been striking up a meaningful conversation about some unheard of disease.

It is as common as parkinsons disease as far as i am aware. Is parkinsons unknown? This disease has come up just as much as any other known disease and i have never met anyone ask what it is or been confused by it. It has been very common on my end of the world. It is as common as diabetes and as well known as that around this part of the world.

As i said, anything to educate others is good. It is a weird way to do it, but whatever works.

But you guys are right, we shouldn't do things like this because these diseases will cure themselves
That's not all that matters and I'm not knocking the benifits it can yield, but the nature in which they are derived. Just a couple of weeks ago I saw someone trying to explain why someone else had to do this, they really didn't even know much about why, the most important thing was that this was the thing to do. Weird to hear because I knew what it was about, but sure enough the conversation led to a few new social media accounts being created and little care or regard for one of many debilitating ailments. Little serious regard , aside from those with either a personal vested interest or who are trying to promote themselves or their brand. It's basically typical Facebook "take up my cause" Shame spam that the same few people post this week's flavor of over and over that after a few weeks of tagging and videoing went big time. Very good for ALS, they won the lottery because it could of been any serious ailment that might of won this 10 million dollars to their charity. It doesn't seem very genuine.

And that matters because? I don't get your point unless it is just to whine and bitch about the stupidity of humans...

Would you actually prefer that they never created this challenge and that ALSA had millions less in funding and awareness? If not then there is really no reason to complain...

This is a gimmick and yes there are idiots involved that don't know or appreciate why they are doing it but none of that really matters. There will always be stupid people doing stupid things but that isn't a reason not to do a good thing like supporting this cause...

Sure, man. Sure. ALS is just as common as Parkinson or Diabetes, you say. Even though ALS affects around 30 thousand Americans against about 1 million affected by Parkinson and close to 30 million affected by Diabetes. Yeah. Just as common.

I'm not speaking for everybody. I actually would prefer if people really gave a shit instead of caring more about a social media shaming game they can put on their online resume. That might mean als got less money in the end this month ultimately but the tradeoff is someone acting upon something that truley is meaningful to them on their own terms, not just when a lucky gimmick happens to come along. It's really not about als, this could of been about anything and that's what's worthy of critique because what should it be about? For me, I typically invest my time, and sometimes my money, where it is more important to me of my own volition. Random internet games have nothing to do with that and I'd prefer if it didn't take them for people with the capacity to something to act.

One of the biggest legends in baseball history and the most Renowned physicist of modern times are the reason people have a degree of awareness about this. That doesn't mean people have a high degree of general knowledge of the illnesses nature nor could they tell you much more about Parkinson's or diabetes aside from what famous person they associate to it unless they have a personal connection to the ailment. But als is in the familiar area due to who is associated to it. Lou Gehrig especially. I've never known anyone personally with this, but I've known of it because of baseball and a brief history of the universe.

Remind me not to live where you do. Sounds like a disease fest... You can't honestly argue it's as well known as Parkinsons and Diabetes.

Unless there is something I not read about Cali?! Which isn't top of my holiday destinations if you speak the truth M.C.

I can absolutely tell you with a straight face that lou gehrig's disease has never once, not ever, been an unknown disease with people I know and in my life experience. If I walk up to anybody I know and ask, they will have heard of it.

Honestly, I am shocked that anybody could not know what it is. Cali isn't full of diseases, this is just extremely common knowledge, or at least it is on this side of the globe. If it's unknown in other places then that is fine, it is extremely surprising to me but it is what it is. The world is a big place.
