An interesting quote from Dana White regarding Tito Ortiz at the UFC 73 post fight press conference. "Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Matt Hughes, Rich Franklin, these guys are much more respected fighters than Tito Ortiz," "They're better fighters." "Tito isn't that good anymore."

Tito Ortiz accused Rashad Evans of "greasing up" and claimed he had Vaseline all over him. This is the 2nd TUF fighter in the state of California Tito has accused of this.

i think its a bit harsh i still think tito is a good fighter but with more pride fighters coming over he will not be in top ten anymore and will prob leave and go to other org.

Atleast he's honost. Aside from his fights with Shamrock, Tito hasent showed any signs of being the "old Tito Ortiz".

And the fact that even after Tito/Rashad people are picking Tito to "destroy" Rashad in their next fight. It's unreal. Tito isn't going to destroy any top level talent, I'm sorry, it's not going to happen anymore.

Win, lose, or draw I think Tito should be given one more chance against a top level fighter like Hendo(if he stays at LHW and Ramp doesn't kill him) or Shogun. I know Tito said he wants Shogun so maybe two fights for Shogun then title shot. Interesting how Dana didn't say names like Anderson Silva, Gonzaga, Penn-find it funny who he still mentions as great fighters-if that is an exact quote.

Tito is a sore loser (kind of). But I never understood how fighters get away with greasing themselves up. Don't the refs check them out before and actually "touch" them before the fight?
The refs and the commission check them multiple times before, during and after the fight, which is why that claim looks more than a little fishy/pathetic, especially since it wasn't made until Ortiz was called on his own cheating.

I am wondering how many more fights he has on his contract?
Tito has a job until he retires. There's no way the UFC will let someone with that kind of name recognition work for the competition.

Tito is close to the end of his contract and up for another negotiation...he's one of the highest paid in the UFC. Tito isn't that talented but is still a huge draw to the casual fans. Since Dana is already discrediting Tito's skills, maybe they won't keep him after the contract expires (unless there's a paycut).
I'd rather that Dana spend the cash on Fedor or other more skilled fighters and do away with Tito.

When does name recongnition stop out weighing his performance?

Oh and another thing for name recognition I love this:
And on a personal note to Hogan, you ARE a household word, but so is garbage...and it stinks when it gets old, too.

I saw the interview this mourning it is an exact quote, the reason why he mentioned those guys is because those 4 are Dana White's puppets. Did you see the look on Dana White's face when Rampage KO'd Chuck Liddell? I honestly think the only reason they brought in Rampage is so Chuck could "avenge all his losses" I use to have a lot of respect for Dana but some it wnet down the drain after the way he looked when his boy Chuck got KTFO! Also do you think if Rich Franklin went back up to 205 that he could beat Tito? I am curious to see how everybody will react IF Tito beats Shogun, and don't give me there is no chance in hell because we already know that is untrue with Matt Serra beating GSP.

I think Franklin would give Tito a run for his money, it would be a UD for sure if Franklin won. I see your point about Tito vs. Shogun if Tito trained for the clinch and kept it standing he might have a chance but I don't see it as Shogun is so dominate standing with Mauy Thia and I am not sure what his friend Rampage could offer in the way of advice. I see your point about Hughes, Franklin, Liddell being Dana's puppets which is sad really.

In order to believe that you need to believe Dana has no understanding of MMA or has never watched any of Rampages fights. I think most well rounded MMA fans thought Rampage was the favorite going into this fight as did I (and I’m a huge Chuck fan). Dana looked surprised because of the way if ended, most people were.

Dana cares about MONEY and not some fighters name, if the belt holder is popular all the better but I’m sure Dana knows that he can’t control who holds belts and has to just go with it and market every champ for all they are worth its his job like it or not.

I probably put that the wrong way, the thing about my comment about Chuck/Rampage was he usually seems happy to put the belt around a champion waist he didn't around Rampage's and when they showed him by Chuck he seemed really pissed off that Chuck loss, I did think Rampage should of been the favorite going to the fight as well, did you hear what Dana say after the fight a couple weeks after the fight? He said that the fight was equivelant to Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson and that upsets happen. Now if that is not fu*ked up then I don't know what is. The only fight that is like that is Matt Serra KOing GSP.

His in-ring performance has less to do with it than his ability to generate revenue for the competition does. We all know how protective White is of the UFC product. He'd rather overpay Ortiz as a gatekeeper than let him get paid anywhere else. I'm pretty sure there's a recent interview out there where White confirmed that Ortiz would have a job with the UFC for a 'long time.'

I imagine it was more a personal thing for White than it was professional. He was Liddell's manager before becoming President of the UFC under Zuffa. They're still close friends. Wouldn't you expect it to be hard for him to take the belt off of his friend's waist and put it on someone else's?

The fact remains that he made the match knowing full well what Jackson was capable of. If he was trying to protect Liddell and had any measurable amount of sense, that match would have never been made.
